Yeah, the 14 year old with a juvenile dragon versus Aemond with the biggest dragon in the world makes the kid a sissy for getting killed. The fuck kind of stupid take is that?

Guys people don't get the Iron Throne by appointment. There's rules of succession that have existed in Westeros for hundreds thousands of years. If you have knowledge of European medieval history, you would know that Viserys was basically causing civil war. Plus do you really think they would let Alicent's children alive when they are an existential threat to Rhaenyra's claim, especially when she has clear bastards in line to inherit ( which would typically make her ineligible for succession ) I don't Rhaenyra would anything but Daemon would even if she told him not to. You saw how he was acting this episode.

1. Aemond didn't steal any dragon. Vhagar was an unbonded dragon that belonged to nobody. Rhaena wanted to claim Vhagar, yes, but she had no inherent right to claim Vhagar above anyone else. Dragons aren't slaves and they aren't heirlooms to be passed down to family. Any Targaryen is welcome to try to bond to a dragon with no rider, and ultimately, it's the dragon who chooses who it wants bonded to them. So the idea that Aemond deserved to lose his eye for theft is wrong. 2. Aemond didn't actually mean that he was okay with his eye being gone. He just saw his ain't shit daddy wasn't going to care enough to give him justice for his eye being taken, saw his mother was freaking out and trying to get justice and only ended up looking crazy to everyone else, and he realized she was the only one in his corner, so he, the ten year old boy with his eye cut out, ended up having to console his understandably hysterical mother, and tell her it's okay that his father doesn't give a damn about his eye, it's okay because he has a dragon. he clearly doesn't mean that, what happened to him is very traumatic and hard to swallow, but he has to pretend because nobody but his mom cares what happened to him. 3. Aemond didn't deserve to lose his eye. He was confronted about a dragon he had every right to claim, and then he got mouthy at the people who confronted him, then they jumped him. Things got out of hand, and Luke was just trying to protect his brother so I'm sure he didn't mean to do it, but Aemond lost his eye and he should have gotten recompense for that, period. If it was your child, you know you wouldn't say they deserved it and to get over it, so idk why people take themselves out of the shoes of the characters and pretend they wouldn't be feeling the same way, it's dishonest imo. 4. Yes, Rhaenyra is a better mother than Alicent, because she actually had the time and space to be a mother when she wished it as an adult, and with whom she wished it, with someone she loved, and she had a support system behind her. Alicent was a child, who had to have them by 15 with a man old enough to be her father whom she had no desire to marry to begin with. She had no husband to support her as you know, no real support system because her father was banished and she had no real friends/allies, and she was essentially a young, teen single mom who was caretaker for her very sick husband, and mother of 4 kids by age 18 all the while she had the duties of a queen, so yeah, of course she doesn't have a handle on being a mother like someone who actually had people behind her to help, and who could fly away to an isolated area of Dragonstone away from responsibility. Alicent had to constantly be in King's Landing, performing her duties as a queen, a wife, a caretaker, a mother, all alone. So no, she didn't quite bond like Rhaenyra with her kids, and she isn't the best mother for it, but it's hardly surprising, she shouldn't have been put in such positions like she was. 5. Aegon II does have a strong claim. It doesn't matter that Viserys named Rhaenyra his heir. The only reason he had to formally name her and make people swear to her is because as a woman, her right to become Queen isn't inherent. It was created by the King as an outlier to the norm. Aegon II is legally the heir by birthright and male primogeniture. That's why Otto said the succession changed as soon as Aegon II was born and he's not wrong. By right of primogeniture, Aegon II has a strong claim for heir. HOWEVER, the King has the right to also name his heir formally and he named RHAENYRA. Therefore, the two of them have valid claims. So the idea that "The Greens" are fighting for something that they have no claim to is actually wrong. One of the points of the dance is that the people involved over the throne both have valid claims. 6. Lastly, while ultimately I don't side with the Greens, I at least get some of their perspectives, namely Alicent. You both seem to acknowledge that Viserys in fact gave no acknowledgement to her children, and he basically didn't even really care. If I were Alicent, I'd fight to put my son on the throne just off that alone. You marry me at 14, fire my father, thereby leaving me lonely, have me pop out 4 kids you neglect, while leaving me to be your caretaker, who basically runs your realm while you're slowly dying, give my kids absolutely nothing, not so much as a title, and I'm supposed to just sit there and like it? Like, I'm leaving here with SOMETHING, because I didn't go through all that just for nothing.

imo it doesn't matter whether aemond meant to kill Luke or not. if u're driving a truck and chasing a child on a bicycle to toy with him u can't be surprised when ur actions have obvious consequences

Daemon not knowing about the prophecy clearly shows Viserys never viewed him as heir. But lowkey that’s crazy because what I’d a king does before sharing the story? Which I assumed happen over the years because it never came up in GoT.

Otto is right about Aegon. He’s a male, he was anointed, he wears the crown and bears the name. Like they said in GoT power resides where the people say it does. The people see Aegon as the king right or wrong. So that’s something they will have to overcome if Raynera is going to become queen.

Rewatching this show with you two has been real fun! You're both crazy entertaining and sharp – mad props to y'all for sharing your genuine, unfiltered and sometimes impulsive thoughts (fire&blood😈), even when you have to deal with a bit of snarky comments along the way. I commend y’all for reflecting and really strengthening your arguments and perspectives throughout. Your debates and understanding of the show hit an elite level, the conversations were really flowing and getting better with each episode 🔥🔥 Keep rocking it, guys! I can’t think of many reactors who nailed understanding the motives of characters in a show like you guys did for this one (esp Alicent & Daemon). People may disagree with you but you know your stuff! Now we all wait unspoiled for season 2 😫 I’m hoping there’s more shows I like that you guys react to until then tho 🙌 thanks for the great content!

In regards to Sophie asking why did Daemon take it so personally that he was never told, it's because it confirms to Daemon that his brother never once considered Daemon to be his heir, even before he named Rhaenyra, even before Rhaenyra was born. Daemon has always wanted to be validated by his brother, but at every turn, from Daemon's POV, Viserys always shunned him. He didn't pick Daemon to be his hand to help him rule, and in this scene, turns out he didn't even consider Daemon as his heir even though Daemon was presumed heir for years.

Team Sophie on this one 😂 Aemond was deadass wrong. Love watching y’all react! Now that this is done, y’all need to watch Spartacus and Interview with a Vampire (tv shows)!

It’s interesting your conversation about war because GRRM (the author/creator of AWOIAF) largely focuses on themes of the futility of war. That’s why you see so much emphasis on how it affects the common people – starvation, crime etc. This conflict in particular is way more obvious with that theme. At every step of the way several characters could’ve taken a path to avoid war, but didn’t. All the tragedy that affects this family and the commonfolk ends up being completely avoidable.

Luke is a sissy I’m sorry

Marcus

Luke reminds me of season 1-3 Jon inside but Jon acted more like Jace on the outside!!

Dani 💤

Absolutely right!! Unfortunately aemond didn’t understand that and lost control and Luke who did lost control and lost his life 😭

Dani 💤

But Amir acknowledging the other side is right and smart but he also understands that it’s wrong and THATS ANOTHER REASON WHY I LOVE THIS REACTION CHANNEL!! Y’all be finding the right way of thinking FRFR and what’s right and wrong and what’s now mysognistic!! Love y’all FRFR can’t wait for next season 😭

Sophie preaching FOR REAL!!! alicent and them were never at a disadvantage because Viserys didn’t make their kids heir. They think they should be there AINT NO DISADVANTAGE!! they wanna follow that patriarchal system and they have that type of agenda. Viserys SHOULDVE never married Alicent period. If he wanted rhaenyra heir but he gave into his desires/oblivious to alicent a growing resentment and ambition. TEAM BLACK🖤.

The relationship between Luke and Aemond is more complex than just “bitter about his eye being taken”. For one, Luke never showed any remorse for what he did to Aemond, not even years later when they were reunited. Second, in Aemond’s head, his father chose Luke over him which makes Luke the embodiment of Viserys’ neglect since Luke never paid for what he did. Even looking at episode 8, Viserys dragged his dying self out of bed to defend Luke, something he never did for Aemond. It doesn’t matter that he got Vhagar, it’s the sense that something is owed, and that anger just builds and builds year after year that justice is withheld or denied. Add to this that as her mount, Vhagar feels what Aemond feels. You saw in this episode that the mere arrival of Luke at Storm’s End agitated Vhagar. So Aemond might’ve just been playing a sick game with Luke, but because it was based on his hatred for Luke, Vhagar doesn’t know the difference. Then Arrax attacks her and not even Aemond can stop her from getting retribution. Luke definitely didn’t deserve to die, but it’s more than just petty arguments between children. Add a deadly weapon to years of resentment and feeling like justice is owed and you have a recipe for tragedy.

Halima

I’ve said it time and time again, if I were Luke and I landed in Storm’s End to find big ass Vhagar in the parking lot, I’m doing an IMMEDIATE u-turn and going back home, “Mum, the Baratheons weren’t home! I’ll try again next week!” 💀

Halima

Why I’m just realising this is the first time y’all are watching something in the GoT universe and actually have to wait for the next season with us 😂😂😂

Halima

And this episode encapsulates the exact reason why marrying Daemon was the worst thing for Rhaenyra. Otto (and a lot of the people on his side) already knew what we saw in this episode. Daemon being married to Rhaenyra means that HE would be ruling, not her. It doesn’t matter if Rhaenyra isn’t influenced by him, the people around her are more likely to listen to him because he’s older and a man than they are to listen to her. He just took charge of the entire operation even while she was standing right there.
