As for Aemond losing an eye, think about it from his perspective if you will. Aemond is literally watching as his mother is the only one trying to get justice for his eye being lost. He is watching his father only care about protecting Rhaenyra and her sons and will not even think to punish Luke in any way for taking his eye. He watches his mother being gaslit. Meanwhile, Aemond is being grilled by the King in front of everyone, while he's sitting there with one of his eyeballs literally sitting in a dish, veins and all. He's a child who watched his father do nothing for his eye, and sees his mother have a breakdown in front of everyone trying to defend him and nothing came of it except her looking crazy to others. So what else can he do? Except comfort her by saying it's okay? It's clearly NOT, but now he's put in a position to calm things by telling her she doesn't have to cry, she doesn't have to seek justice for this injustice done to her son. But he's saying that becauuse he's recognized he will never get it from the man who calls himself Aemond's father, and his mother is only being made to look bad by fighting it. Him saying that was him shielding his mother from further scrutiny by de-escalating. If you're familiar with game of thrones, you know being a cripple/disabled makes things much harder in their world, even as a noble, you're looked at differently. Aemond is not okay with this, and he shouldn't be. He never should've lost an eye for a dragon, he's a Targaryen, having a dragon is a right of passage.

I mean, but to be fair to Vaemond, he is being usurped. Yeah, Corlys said "it's not blood but names," but he's saying this because he wants to have his line recognized in the history books, which is what Vaemond said. "My brother cares only for the history books." Corlys is in all actuality, usurping the Driftmark throne from his younger brother. Because Corlys has no trueborn grandsons, by law, the throne passes to his brother. Corlys backing Rhaenyra is the same as the Greens trying to block Rhaenyra from her right to rule. See that's the conundrum here. While Rhaenyra is trying to protect her right to rule and protect her children from being exposed, together, she and Corlys are also breaking law and taking a seat of power from someone else, each for their own ends. Vaemond is having his own right taken from him to hide Rhaenyra's secrets, and by extension, the rights of his children, and he knows this and he's fighting it. He wasn't even initially trying to call them out as bastards, but when the King basically told him he can't fight for his own legal rights for himself and his kids, he got mad, and understandably so. Vaemond is a second son. He inherits nothing that he doesn't go out and get himself. So Corlys denying him his rights is even worse here. He knows Vaemond is legally entitled to Driftmark but he'd rather block him for his own ends, and people cheer when Vaemond is being stripped of his rights, but get angry when someone fights Rhaenyra for a throne that's hers. Because the King is in fact trying to place bastard kids who aren't even Velaryon's on the Driftmark throne, to protect his daughter, and that in turn is stepping over the rights of trueborn Velaryons like Vaemond and his sons. Vaemond just got his head cut off for exposing the truth and being denied his birthright for Rhaenyra and her kids. This is setting another precedent that anyone who speaks the truth will be killed or have their tongues cut out (like episode 7 when Aemond's eye was cut and nothing happened to the one who did it because they were Rhaenyra's kid, but Aemond was threatened with punishment if he speaks on Rhaenyra's sons). As for Vaemond being killed, the truth is, he knew he was dead the moment Viserys came in and reiterated Rhaenyra as heir. He just showed his hand that he's willing to fight for his own claim. That makes him a threat. So the one thing he could do was to yell the truth to everyone there, and be an example to show them the injustice of what happens when you speak the truth about Rhaenyra's kids.

All I will say is this: don't let anyone on here bully or push you to side with them. This fandom has been notorious for that, and getting mad when people actually can empathize with both sides in some way or another. You're not wrong to see the flaws in Rhaenyra or Daemon or the Greens, they ALL have done unlikeable and foolish things, but some of these fans want to make it out like only ONE side has done things wrong and is just filled with superficial things like jealousy and just make their grievances black and white, while the other side is blameless and innocent, and that's never been how George has written his work. You have been pretty spot on with your assessments as far as seeing the flaws in some of the main characters behaviors, but this fandom hates hearing criticism of Rhaenyra or other fan faves.

i know Sophie was like who Aemond calling his nephews Aemond is Rheaneyra's half brother

ramon carter

yall really need to listen and pay attention more and talk less over the dialogue

Chris

Viserys thought he was talking to rhanerya at the end when he brought up ageons dream

Chris

I agree with Sophie about duty (for the show). Also I think it's so funny that they keep emphasizing "uniting the realm" to prepare against the cold and the dark and how a targaryen has to be on the throne, etc, etc when in the end it's Arya Stark who kills the night king lol. I know some people think that it'll be different in the books but I see the hotd show being in the same canon as the got show and the fire&blood book being in the same canon as the asoiaf books.

sami

I actually feel for him too. He's not wrong...This show has me all over the place!

Daemon channeled his inner Fresh Prince when Vammond was talking crazy about his wife

TC24

I feel for Corlys’ brother. Your family line is basically gonna be snuffed out if you let it pass down to people who have no blood relation to you. And everyone around you is just letting it happen. Even with Rhaenyra’s kids marrying Leana’s, their children would only have a quarter of true Velaryon blood.
