To answer you guys question : Back in 2007 Sony/Columbia pictures owned Spider-Man. This is because even earlier , back in the late 80’s/90’s Marvel comics sold the rights of Spider-Man to Columbia. So Spider-Man & all his villains are owned by Sony. X-Men was bought by Fox in 1994. Marvel Studios (films) began the MCU in 2008 with Iron Man with the idea to build up a film universe to Avengers. Marvel Studios were then acquired by Disney in 2009 & they officially began trying to reacquire all their properties. Sony held on to Spider-Man because its one of their BIGGEST IPs , but entered into a joint agreement with Marvel in 2016 starting with Civil War. Marvel Disney then acquired Fox (the Xmen) in 2019.
