I think either way. Others can tell you if there are spoilers in them. I've seen them all so many times I can't remember. But they are definitely worth watching to get a better understanding

Watching before the season isn't bad at all, I'm pretty sure there is no spoilers for the upcoming season just context for peoples motivations and history of westeros in general. If you think having more backstory will help you understand the show better, do it. I seriously doubt it'll make your reactions worse.

“The Mountain” has been played by two different actors already.

You’ve seen Gregor Clegane before, he cut his horse in half when he lost a joust in season 1 and he’s been with Tywin and Arya this past season at Harrenhal.

Gives you great understanding of Stannis’ character. It sounds super strict to cut a man’s fingers off who literally saved your life / but remember Ned stark’s character… what’s the first thing we see Ned do in the series? Punish a man who broke the law.

Whatever you choose just know that you’re watching the show FOR YOU. Stans who read all the books and have seen the series 6 times are always going to give you shit. If knowing what’s going on will make your reactions weaker then please don’t do it. If it won’t change your emotional reaction - maybe not a problem
