Just some notes: They were killing all of Robert's bastards (remember that prostitute whose baby was killed was the woman Ned talked to right before Jamie fought him in Season 1 Episode 5; and the Night's Watch guy told Arya to pretend to be a boy to disguise who she is (and for safety's sake-- rape!!!) and is planning to drop her off at Winterfell on their way to the Wall. Lastly, the red-headed lady with Stannis didn't *do* anything to that old man-- he tried to poison her (they drank from the same cup) and thought it would kill them both-- but it only killed him.

That is why Ned wrote that letter to Stannis informing him about Joeffreys true heritage and he would have supported Stannis to succeed Robert. Now Stannis sent that information to all the houses of the seven kingdoms and expects them to submit to him or he will consider them enemies. Roberts bastard sons would be later in line of inheritage after Roberts brothers, but they still would have a better claim then Jeoffrey.
