Most people us subtitles for season 1 until you really understand the world and names and accents. I was lost without them at first. And Ned’s older brother was killed my the mad King, remember Sansa said it in the throne room “my grandfather and uncle wee killed here weren’t they?”. Ned’s brother in the nights watch is his younger brother or else he wouldve been the lord of winterfell
