Note: Download the 4K version if you think your computer can handle it, you’ll probably know who you are. If you’re not sure, just download the 1080P version. They both look fantastic.

We’ve spent some time after LA Comic Con enhancing elements of the demo before releasing it to Patrons. Although we had hoped to release it on the same day, or at least much sooner, watching people play it live at the event helped us see areas in the game that needed extra attention. Thank you for your patience.
Operating on our current 3-tier system—alpha (internal builds), beta (Patron/closer fan builds), and RC (fir for public release)—this build is firmly in the beta phase. You may encounter minor oddities or slight friction in controls. That said, we’re confident that it’s at least very playable in its current state.
It’s important to note that this build is not a tech demo. It’s a snapshot of the midsection of the story, allowing you to experience the game’s core mechanics and get a feel for the rest of the narrative. You’re dropped right into the story, so while some context may be missing, you should still grasp the situation Ritona is in.
The scenario text is currently written with an Xbox controller in mind. This decision was based on our gut feeling that it would be the most popular controller for the widest gamut of people but you can also play with a keyboard and mouse. Just be warned that some elements of the narrative may not make sense without a controller. For controls, please refer to the guide at the top of this article.
There’s currently no save/load feature, so if you want to reach the end, you’ll need to play through in one sitting. This will, of course, be added in the final release. Sorry, but we didnt have time to add in a quit function either so you’ll have to Alt+f4 out in Windows and Command + Q for macOS. Just a friendly reminder though, those commands will immediately kill the game so only do it when you want to exit out completely.
I don’t want to sound overly dramatic for just a demo, but this is a big deal for us as it’s the first time actually releasing a piece of software that can be undoubtedly be considered a proper “video-game". Our little humble team of 4 have poured blood, sweat and tears into this—not just for this demo but for the fault series as a whole.
Thanks for being patient with us through the crazy long wait. I know I say this a lot, but without you, dear patrons, we probably wouldn’t be here. It may take a bit more time till final release but I hope this small glimpse into the demo will give you a taste of what we’re capable of now and help you gain confidence in our abilities as a team. I hope you play it and go “OH. Okay. Now this is worth waiting for.” I hope you’re as thrilled as I am to see some real god damn progress in the milestone series. Can you believe it ? It’s actually happening.
Perhaps we can beat Half-Life 3 to the goal tape after all.

We’ve set up a Discord channel for discussions. Please check out #cellar-door and #cellar-door-bug-report. We’d love to hear from you!
About bug reporting: We’re always happy to hear about bugs, but please be aware that there are some strange and unusual graphics issues. These aren’t a top priority right now because we’re aware of a lot of them. The same goes for sound issues - we just need more time to fix them. System-level bug reports are a higher priority, like crashes and Ritona running through walls.
That being said, it’s probably hard to tell what’s important or not, so we welcome all casual reports in #cellar-door-bug-report. We hope you enjoy the demo!
