Hello patrons! It's tornado season in the US! And this reaction is a little different because it is to a lesser known and brand new documentary on Netflix. It is about the Joplin, Missouri, tornado that took place May 22, 2011. I consider this city almost like my hometown. I have many family members and close friends there and I have been a frequent visitor (almost every holiday and vacation) for 30 years. I was not there when it happened and luckily our family was just (1/2 mile) outside of the path of the tornado. But we flew there 10 days later and helped several friends sort through the rubble of what use to be their homes. The school system was also devastated with the loss of the high school, 2 middle schools, 3 elementary schools, and the administration building. Many of my relatives were educators or young students so this was very difficult for the family.
Want more facts? 7k homes, 1k businesses, 35 churches, 27k cars, and a huge hospital were all destroyed. Lives lost totaled 161 (which I still think is a fortunately low number).
