Why the ending is predictable... not because the plot is shit. It is because the plot is following a canon of japanese horror story. Japanese horror stories mostly follow 2 sources: A-bomb and Yakuza. This one is Yakuza. ALl the horror stories of this type are following the same plan. First it is an encounter with evil. Ordinary people get absolutely accidentally involved into something, they accidentally see something they are not supposed to see. Then there comes a verdict, a message. Then, inevitably and beyond comprehension of the ordinary people, a death comes. All is incomprehensible, the people are totally helpless. Then there is a hint, information, and people are trying to follow with many more dying in the process. Then a source of evil is discovered and somehow eliminated. Then, usually beyond the knowledge of the people involved, it is revealed to the watchers that the evil was not limited to the eliminated source, that the evil is bigger and even more beyond any comprehension, there is nothing the ordinary people can comprehend about the evil or do, and the evil continues. This is how Yakuza operates and this is the typical scheme of Japanese horror of this type.

At this point in time they have only information that somebody sends texts, can use some superpower to do shit to people (like hang them (there is zero evidence they did it themselves at the point) or kill remotely) and know everybody in the class and interested by this class only. If you assume that the king is a human, it is logical to at least try to search among the class first (teachers and parents do not exist in teenage LN world). Rem's assumption that an order can force people to say something they do not know is way more far fetched.
