Punchline Music Video (Alt Take)

Feliz Navidad! Feliz Hanukkah! Feliz Gilmore!

Before I get to the meat and potatoes of today's post, I would like to cordially invite everyone to join our "4th Annual Countdown Halloween #7 Zoom Celebration"  on Monday, 12/30 at 9 EST. Mark your calendars!

Thanks to everyone who tuned into the 'Ends' album stream on Saturday night. It was a joy reading through the comments and seeing everyone's first impressions. I'll post the zoom discussion in the coming days.

I did a Punchline AMA in the Lutskord voice chat last week and I mentioned that we shot four takes total for the Punchline music video. Each take was tighter than the one before, but we still had a pretty intense debate on whether we should release take 3 or 4.

The overall consensus was that the lighting in take 3 was more visually interesting but the dance and camera moves were tighter in take 4.

I really love the optimistic tone of this one, but the close 360 at the end of take 4 sealed the deal for me.

Anyways, the Punchline train charges ahead until its time to catch the Run train in January.

Hope to see you at Halloween #7! And Triple Taxers, keep an eye out for this years' cards.

Sincerely,
(the real) Big Nick

I finally got around to watching this. There are so many really accidentally poetic shots and moments in this one to me, but these two stood out the most: + 00:40 "I'm flooded with light" and the dancers are lined up perfectly with the lens flare from the sun as they literally motion to it. Perfection. + And how Nick doesn't seem as eager to get out of bed after he sits up in this one. Gradually, though, he becomes more animated as he watches the dancers, like they're inspiring him to get up and move as well. But then the drawbacks are all of the intense lens flares throughout, and the awkward angle of the dancers behind Nick at the piano, bent over and motionless, while waiting to throw rose petals. Messes with the overall flow.

I agree on #4 but there are some absolutely magical moments in this one! 1:00 this lighting and framing of Nick 2:20 this lighting and intensity of the dancers has a very different feel! 2:28 really enjoyed this framing and their movements, such joy

Definitely agree that take 4 was the way to go. But still beautiful!

Couldn’t make it to the album stream. Does a recording exist somewhere on Patreon?

Matthew Marcus

The lighting is beautiful, but I have to agree on take 4 being the Superior one.

So stoked. Punchline is fantastic but I’ve been itching for Run since August
