Punchline Pre-game

Thanks everyone for the unbelievably kind words on Punchline. It's an exciting time to be releasing new music after many months of creating in isolation.

And welcome new friends! Patreon has a new feature where you can gift patreon subscriptions and the discord (lutskord) has gone crazy with it. I think I counted 30 new members?! If you're new here, check under the membership tab for live recordings, stems, demos, rarites, zoom parties, etc.

We are approaching the dawn of a new era with Punchline entering the world this Wednesday. I alluded to the fact that we’ll be releasing monthly singles and music videos for the foreseeable future. The strategy is not so dissimilar from Songs on the Computer in some ways. Releasing many tracks individually ahead of a full album release gives each song its own moment to shine with undivided attention. It also prolongs the celebration of new music over many months rather than a single release day.

I’m officially in my mid-thirties, and now that Asa has been sacrificed to the cruel crustacean gods, I’m the youngest gent in the band by about a decade. We are all album heads. It’s how we’ve always consumed music. We have crafted an album - not just a series of singles.

The release strategy is an attempt to grow the fanbase one song at a time. We’re attempting to meet the masses where they are as this is how the majority of people now consume new music. Of course, we want to have our cake and eat it too, so we’ll be streaming the full album on Patreon 12/21 at 9 EST (We'll plan an encore stream for international folks at a TBD time).

My main reason for writing to you this morning:

Who has some creative ideas to ensure Punchline is heard far and wide?

That’s really all I’ve got currently. I know most of you have already watched on Patreon, but liking / sharing / commenting on YouTube / Spotify / Etc is very helpful. I know that spotify is the devil, but more organic streams = placement in algorithmic playlists = way more streams = more opportunities to tour / travel / etc.

Nick is a national treasure (get Nicholas Cage on the phone)! Do you need a bass clarinet player? I'm just asking for a friend. ✌️🫶🦐

I'm ready to celebrate Punchline 💓 Getting people to share through using the song on shorts/reels is another idea

This is a great post, I really like the idea of celebrating each song individually across an extended period of time, that is like Dystopia Insurance or something, as shit hits the fan Big Nick is there to spray Febreeze, or something. In regards to your main point concerning getting the songs to the people who need them, because the people need them now more than ever, I would like to share my idea, and I'll try to be brief. I personally get to interact with a lot of random people through my jobs, and more importantly those interactions generally revolve around their interests and so forth, for instance they will ask me if we carry a certain book and then I can use that to have them tell me about something meaningful and important to them that they most likely don't get to talk about everyday, and subsequently I have met a ton of awesome people and I am then able to invite them to accept Big Nick into their heart, etc. So as a means to those 'Ends', and in the spirit of "street teams" of yore, would it be possible to establish some templates for flyers or inserts that we could use to support word of mouth efforts and so forth? We could print them out at the copy shop and keep them on hand so it would be pretty inexpensive, or I assume it would be. And just personally, it would be the perfect countermeasure to the atrocious religious tracts I find all the damn time, so two birds with one stone I guess. Sorry for being long-winded, and thanks for doing all you do man, sorry if that was a mess to read through.

Spotify IS the devil, but it is the devil that helped me find (shoved me into) the Lutskoverse rabbit hole. 🤷‍♂️
