How's it going!? Are we all fully sprung? I'm drinking my morning* coffee and attempting to be a productive human being.
It was wonderful hanging with many of you Saturday evening. Loved seeing new faces and catching up with old faces. Lots of deep and fun conversations. Happy to have Mikey help spill a bean. I think he picked a good one. I did a really bad job answering Erin's question about what else is out there musically that I could compare this new record to. I sent all of the songs to Mikey to see if he can do a better job than me. I'll report back if so.
A few months ago, I began writing a song called Hold You. I did a video update discussing its origins and the identity crisis that took place halfway through writing it. I decided to put a pin in it and come back later. Well, last week (three months later) was the time. I wrote a new verse that was apparently influenced by the Pixar movie Inside Out. I hadn't seen it since it first came out but I watched it with my daughter the night before. I played the finished song for my wife and she immediately pointed out some similarities of which I wasn't consciously aware.
I mentioned the movie C'mon C'mon a few months back and how it had a profound effect on me. I think something that both it and Inside Out touch on is how much of our lives we forget - particularly our childhoods. I have a horrible memory and it bums me out thinking about all of the special moments that have been lost to time. I'm not great at articulating my thoughts in non-song form so I'll just share the verse.
All the affirmation
That your brain will soon delete
Marinates in another place
That’s just beyond your reach
It’s my job to remind you that
The love will never leave
And every experience
Is like a fallen leaf
That nourishes the tree
I'm attempting to write two more songs! Hoping to have them finished by the end of this month. In addition to finishing those, tracking the band's parts and mixing the remainder of the record is top priority. I've mentioned that we're starting to plan some music videos and I'm also starting to think about album art and official title as well. I've got a couple ideas but nothing concrete.
Talk soon!
