Week #12 Update!
Added 2024-01-20 21:13:53 +0000 UTCNot much of an update this week other than there is no update! We got a few inches of snow on Monday and we were stuck on top of this mountain until Friday afternoon. Had a blast playing in the snow with the family on Monday afternoon but everything quickly turned into an icy death trap.
In lieu of information regarding new music, I've decided to share a list and quick thoughts on media I've consumed over the past few months:
Past Lives
Mikey recommended this as his top film of the year. My wife and I really loved it. Probably top 5 for the year for me.
Killers of the Flower Moon
I saw this in theaters with Jakey and really enjoyed it, but rewatching a couple weeks ago solidified its standing as an instant classic. It was nice to watch without Taylor Swift performing loudly in the background. Love De Niro's performance as the devil incarnate and also love that he wore Desmond's fighter pilot goggles from G3:DoD.
The Curse
Wow! Nathan Fielder hasn't missed yet. It's crazy watching him hold his own alongside Emma Stone at the top of her game. Benny Safdie was great and made me laugh out loud many times. Probably the craziest ending to a TV show I've ever seen. Still can't fully comprehend it but it worked for me.
C'mon C'mon
I missed this when it came out probably because I had a newborn. I paid for "Paramount+ with Showtime" so I could watch The Curse and they have a bunch of A24 movies on there. I remembered liking the trailer and then never heard anything about it ever again. I was deeply moved by this movie! I loved everything about it. Instant favorite. I made Clair watch it with me again a few nights later. It was nice to see Joaquin Phoenix play a sweet, normal person.
The Holdovers
Clair and I watched this on NYE and I was interrupted by a phone call from Phil Braun minutes before midnight. Really enjoyed this one as well. Great performances from all three leads, felt like a fitting holiday film.
Lamb
Very strange slow burn! I liked it a lot for what it was, but almost too minimalistic.
Beau Is Afraid
I loved this one in theaters and enjoyed the rewatch, but not as much as I anticipated. Nathan Lane is the highlight for me.
Dream Scenario
Lost me a bit in the third act, but it was incredibly entertaining and an all time Nic Cage performance!
Pearl
I didn't care for X very much but felt like I still needed to see this. I liked it better than X, but not by a significant margin.
Godzilla Minus One
Pretty shocked by how great this was!
Saltburn
Good performance from Barry Keoghan but ultimately pretty silly and unremarkable.
Thankskilling
Dumb!
What have you been watching? What should I add to my list?
TTFN!

2024-01-25 22:23:46 +0000 UTCThankskilling is horrible. We had a yearly tradition where I'd watch it with my brother and cousin every Thanksgiving night almost as an endurance test. Though did you watch Thankskilling or Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving is the one that had a Grindhouse trailer I got to see The Teeth in Philadelphia at one of their reunion shows, idk if you're familiar with them but it was awesome https://youtu.be/kHuudt2mGgk?feature=shared&t=3704

2024-01-21 18:51:21 +0000 UTCAfter Saltburn, we watched The Talented Mr Ripley (Paramount+/Showtime), which neither of us had seen before. Way better movie. Kinda funny to me that they released two films in two years where the premise was basically, “You look a bit like Jude Law” (with Gattaca). We also watched the Twisted Metal series (Peacock) which is far from prestige TV, but is way better than it had any right being. Anthony Mackie is the star. Jason Mantzoukas is a guest villain, Preacher. Will Arnet (voice) and wrestler Samoa Joe (body) collaborate to become Sweet Tooth. It’s a fun break for 30 minutes at a time.
