Week #10 Update!

Greetings from my treadmill!

Yes, I’m officially beginning my yearly tradition of attempting to lose the 20-30 lbs I’ve gained since fall. Maybe one year I’ll crack moderation.

The past few weeks have been busy with holiday festivities and family celebrations. I was able to sneak downstairs for a few hours at a time and work on an instrumental that I started playing around with last January. I think it has potential to be really strong but I’m having a hard time finding a groove lyrically. I’m happy with the little progress I’ve made though, and it’s nice to have something to go back to whenever I lose focus on something else.

I finished another new song called Punchline yesterday. I began work on it the day after Christmas noodling around on acoustic guitar. It shares some common DNA with Obituary, but it’s mostly pretty different than anything else I’ve done. It might be recency bias, but I think it’s one of my favorites of the new batch of songs. Jon wrote a horn melody that has a really beautiful and powerful moment in the song. Lyrically, it’s another one that rides the line between wildly depressing and unapologetically optimistic.

In other news, I did a long form interview with the great Shannon Strucci today in the Grotto. We talked about art, politics, AI, the south, Desmond, etc.

Desmond is really the only thing I’m qualified to talk about but it was a wonderful conversation nonetheless. Shannon and her crew are top tier folks and I’m really excited to see what she’s cooking up. (This is a patreon exclusive, so please don't spill these beans until Shannon is ready!)

Finally, I'll leave you with one more small bean. Minutes before we went live last Saturday night, we did a very quick soundcheck where we ran a bit of a new song that we worked out moments earlier in case someone asked to hear something new. Obviously it's a little rough and very stripped down, but it's something! sound check 1 - come again
