Week #6 Update!

Bonjour!

This week's update will be shorter than others and I won't be breaking down the day by day as it all sort of blurred together!

The headline is I started working on a new song Sunday afternoon and I just exported a full draft a few hours ago. It's called "All On Red" and it has a pretty strong 80s pop vibe.

Something cool is starting to happen where I'm able to connect dots between the songs and lean into thematic elements that weren't necessarily intentional. Swords came together the same way. I never intended to write a concept album - I just realized over time that the songs were connected by a common thread and then I doubled down on it. My friend Elias called it "letting your subconscious lead the way."

One thing I noticed this week is how I'm pairing a handful of songs together as thematic inversions of each other. So I leaned into making this song a thematic inversion of Come Again. They transition into one another really nicely as well.

Musical Comedians You Really Should Know In 2023

My manager let me know I made this end of year list and asked me to fill out a form. It might be the first time someone asked me to list comedy influences and I really struggled with it! I put Steve Martin because The Jerk is an all time favorite since childhood. But for some reason, I've been kicking myself for not putting Conan O'Brien.

World Record Podcast

I did this a few days after the Halloween show but it was just released this week. I'm familiar with Brendan through Office Hours and Poundcast, but I had never listened to his show before. It was wild!
