Gratitude and grief

During the fall equinox, there are often two polar energies at play: the energy of gratitude/abundance/prosperity and grief/releasing/letting go. Practice a gentle yoga flow to explore these polarities and feel the liminal space in between. We begin with the Intelligence Meditation to help balance the brain during Mercury retrograde, then move to a standing sequence with qigong-style movements for earth and ether chi. The flow includes dynamic low lunge, child’s pose, kneeling qigong, chair, dynamic warrior I, downward dog, kneeling plank and chaturanga, cobra, and seated hip and hamstring openers with a twist.

Embodiment practice: In your journal, create a column titled “Gratitude” and one titled “Grief.” Under the Gratitude column, list all the embodied thank yous, the moments/activities that light you up, and everything that makes you feel abundant and prosperous. Under the Grief column, write down anything you’re releasing or letting go this season, or anything that you’re being called to create space or a boundary around. When you’re finished, write “these are all perfect” under the Gratitude list and “these are all perfect” under the Grief list.
