Let go and release expectations

A yin practice for healing, releasing, and letting go. As Judith Lasater writes, “When you allow yourself to see things as they really are, then — and only then — can you love yourself and others without hidden expectations. Detachment is the greatest act of love.” Clear your energy with an opening meditation and breath for the chakras. Imagine white light all around you as you warm up with some cat/cow variations and seated arm movements. Yin postures include a variation of melting heart, long holds in butterfly, twists, and caterpillar fold, and a final heart-opening integration in supported fish pose.

Props: two blocks and a blanket

Benefits: letting go, releasing, heart opening, spine, breath, chakras, energy clearing, aura recharge, present moment, healing

Living Your Yoga embodiment practice: The next time you feel yourself caught in the grip of attachment, such as wanting something to turn out a certain way, take time out—right then and there—to notice what is happening in your body. How does your belly feel? Has your breathing changed? Is your jaw tight? Your forehead drawn? Notice your bodily sensations. They are the manifestations of your attachment. Stay present to your bodily sensations. If you try to pull surrender to you or push discomfort away, you will create even more agitation. Engage life by accepting the sensations as they are. As you continue, you may notice that you begin to relax and that your mind is not gripped so tightly around the outcome.

Mantra for Daily Living: This moment is the perfect moment to let go.
