A yin practice to help you root, ground, receive healing and nourishment, and connect to the earth. Begin in a meditation with a brief mudra overview before moving into seated butterfly with some acupressure massage and caterpillar fold. (Note: the connection gets spotty in this section, but it eventually fixes itself.) Transition onto the belly for full prostration and crocodile, then practice a sequence of child’s pose, yogi squat (modified version available), and dangle post. We close out the practice with some feel-good twists, supported bridge, and shavasana.
Props: two blocks and a rolled-up blanket
Benefits: feet, legs, hips, low back, sacrum, root chakra, earth star chakra, grounding, healing, connection, earth embodiment
Playlist: Earth on Spotify
Embodiment practice: Find a flower in nature beginning to bloom and meditate on all of the qualities and gifts from the earth that allow that to happen. As Danna Faulds writes, “I kneel to touch their loveliness, those colorful explosions of hope amidst the cold. Crouched thee, heart beating near the earth, I sense you pouring life force into everything, holding a vessel that is always full.”
