Doomsday/Disaster Movie Poll

I asked Google to pick these ones for me because time is of the essence 🤪 haha I don't think I've ever said that before in my life! We have family coming to stay for a couple weeks so I'm being organised for a change and filming in advance. Won't be falling off the track this time. No Sir!

Anyway, hopefully we have some good ones to choose from. Google can be a bit dottled at times.

Comments

not everyone thinks about doomsday scenarios on a daily basis, lol super volcano - feels very remote asteroid impact - can happen at any time but historical probability of a very large impact would be at 50-100 million years. a global pandemic? - we've seen hints of it so we know it's real but... nuclear devastation - this is very possible, it could take out half the planet? Also we can recall at least one country "took two" for the team

Mannygogou

Greenland was good but day after tomorrow is my pick. Poseidon advanture, Towering inferno are ones my brothers taped when I was young. They was good in their time Die hard always gave me flashbacks of towering inferno.

Yorkshire Shaft

oh haha, let me know what you think if you try it!

Mannygogou

Yeah, the wafer cones I only do with soft-serve custard on a Jersey shore boardwalk, choc & van swirled together... I really like the warm, buttered toast with the bowl of ice cream idea, with the toast subbing for a cone. Gonna get right on that one! ☺️

Louis Marzullo

I fist had the green tea ice cream in some nice restaurant, they waved their hand saying you gotta try this! Later I found it in an Asian market. Waffles... usually with poured syrup - but plain toast with butter is legend - then there are those wafer type ice cream cones that are flat on the bottom which are bland - skip that and put ice cream on your favorite toast!, lol Just don't inhale the toast crumb particles!

Mannygogou

Saw that in a packed theater as an 8-year old with whole family on a Saturday nite. Big event in those days! Chinese take-out before the movie!

Louis Marzullo

Yes, have had Green Tea Ice Cream in sit-down Chinese restaurants! With orange slices & fortune cookies! Black cherry & P.P. sound awesome together... Buttered toast with a bowl of ice cream? I say, why the hell not?? 😄🍨🧈🍞 (that's a loaf of Martin's sliced potato bread, however)

Louis Marzullo

I thought world war z was awful in my opinion

james hood

hahaha, this is unusual - my favorite is Green Tea Ice Cream... oh yea, so good! Maybe found only in Asian market. From a regular place, I like black cherry, pecan praline too..., moose tracks. To add to the unusual... have buttered toast with ice cream, works great!

Mannygogou

I feel I can now enjoy my Christmas Mannygogou, many thanks for that!

Datsmeharse

Lol I did the same thing: I generally don't like Brad Pitt but I think Dawn will enjoy WWZ more than Day After Tomorrow. She'd probably like both of them though.

Datsmeharse

Volcano! I love that. It's not as good as Dante's Peak, but I do find it a fun time. Probably because of Tommy Lee Jones.

Simon

I'd love to see Dawn react to Mars Attacks. Worst (which means as movie, the best) disaster movie I can think of is Threads. It's been branded as "the most disturbing movie ever made" and it's original broadcast in UK became known as "the night the country didn't sleep"

Dolf (a.k.a. Anders Ericsson)

I switched my vote to WWZ, anything to avoid The Day after Tomorrow.

Dolf (a.k.a. Anders Ericsson)

"The Life & Times of Moe Green (he made his bones when you were datin' cheerleaders!)"

Louis Marzullo

Now there's one place I wouldn't mind seeing zombies show up!

Louis Marzullo

Or see Nicholas Cage go on a honeymoon or drink himself into a stupor with a call girl

Bartleby

Now you're talkin'! One scoop of coffee & one scoop of butter pecan on a sugar cone for me. You have a fave?

Louis Marzullo

Yay! Maybe I shall have ice cream now...

Mannygogou

Idea for a movie poll!! Las Vegas!!! Movie That Takes Place in Las Vegas

Bartleby

I'll say no more so as not to spoil it 🙂

Mannygogou

For showing your work!

Louis Marzullo

In a doomsday scenario... on Earth a natural disaster might only be a super volcano. Tsunamis would be pretty bad but it wouldn't be doomsday. Okay the other natural disaster could be some sort of virus... yea. And something that might kill all of the sea plankton would be disaster because they make 50% to 80% of the world's oxygen. But that would be slow motion. Earth turning into ice age... also would take a long time, 100,000 years so people would adjust to it. Unnatural disasters, Earth based - would be nuclear war or something major bad that could create a doomsday scenario. Scientist once calculated the chance of the atmosphere catching on fire was a non-zero probability but it was fine. Disaster from outside Earth - natural ones. The sun could have problems - this scenario would probably take a couple of million years so we'd notice. Comet or asteroid - yes this is the big one. There could also be a gamma ray burst from outer space that could sterilize the planet, certain doom. Oh the sun could throw off a massive coronal mass ejection that could devastate civilization... kinda, maybe that's 10% of a doomsday in severity, still very bad. Other strange things - inside a neutron star could exist exotic matter they call 'strange matter' and whatever it contacts also becomes strange matter and in a runaway effect it could destroy the universe. This conversion of normal matter could propagate at the speed of light... maybe. But still would take billions to trillions of years. Finally - conquering aliens? Or demolition of Earth to make way for a hyperspatial bypass route? Usually it's invading aliens. It could even be microscopic bits of alien origin. And then there's artificial intelligence which is like an alien, non-human life. There could be nanobots from space that find material then turn into more nanobots, self-replicating and could maybe by accident destroy everything. The nanobots may look like gray goo to the unaided eye, gooifying everything.

Mannygogou

I count 3, even though technically there's only one (I think). I meant that the one is in the lead, or at least it was. But if you say it's fun, then I'm glad I voted for it b/c it will make for a better reaction!

Louis Marzullo

I haven't seen all the zombie movies on this list so I don't know how many there are. But for more of a global story World War Z is pretty fun. The usual zombie story is local like inside a mall... or a town, an island?

Mannygogou

heh he... I supposed disaster or doomsday could be classified in severity... worst case - the planet is erased or destroyed massive bad - extinction levels, likely no humans survive ouchie - society destroyed, humans put on the menu, not a good time worthy challenge - humanity resolve tested, calamity possibly averted with no harm done - 50/50 chance between despair or rejoicing I won't spoil where Mars Attacks would fit, if any - maybe it doesn't quality - will need reaction

Mannygogou

I'm glad that Volcano is getting some token votes. It's kind of silly, but in an enjoyable way.

James B.

I went with WWZ. At least Dawn will be happy. ☺️

Louis Marzullo

Mars Attacks is a truly wonderful movie, but I don't think I really would classify it as a disaster movie.

Dolf (a.k.a. Anders Ericsson)

"Time is of the essence... because doomsday approaches!" lol Possible missing disaster type movies are... Deep Impact, Don't Look Up, The Core, 2012, The Day the Earth Stood Still (either version), War of the Worlds (either version), Mars Attacks, Interstellar... and The Terminator (ha-ha!) 😄

Mannygogou

Zombies are impossible to kill on this channel! I haven't seen any of these. Think that's a poll first for me. Ah, well. Peace on Earth, good will to all! ☮️

Louis Marzullo

I would have added "The Towering Inferno" (1974) as a disaster movie, with Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, William Holden and so many others.

John A

I dislike most disaster films so I'll pass. I know, it's a great loss.

Ethan Firl

Dawn, I would like to bring to your attention another disaster flick called Dante's Peak, with Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton in the lead roles. It's a volcano film, very much worth your time to watch at some point.

David Bennett

I'm voting for The Road. I haven't seen it myself, nor red the book, but I recently heard it discussed in a serious podcast and it seems interesting. The only ones I know I've seen on the list are The Day after Tomorrow and Volcano. The latter is so so, The Day after Tomorrow is utter garbage and please God, don't let it be the pollwinner.

Dolf (a.k.a. Anders Ericsson)

I voted for I Am Legend because it's one of the few films I can stomach starring that idiot Will Smith.

JL Green

To me, disasters are nature run amok (of course I'm in Florida 😃) so zombies don't jive!

Robert Inman

May I, outside of the poll, humbly suggest Threads, the most gut wrenching "disaster" movie ever made. It does have a really serious message, being made very much in a documentary style. It is guaranteed to make deep impact, and I think it is a movie everyone (and especially all slimy politicians) should see at least once.

Dolf (a.k.a. Anders Ericsson)

can you do a review on Constantine with keanu reeves? great movie as well
