McBell caught me off guard a little, as a character. When I created Binky, I could more or less see where his character arc would lead him. McBell didn't become McBell, in my opinion, until I was writing the courtroom scene for the first chapter. I realized she isn't just a criminal who hates authority, she's a jester, who heckles authority. (This is the same reason she occasionally breaks the fourth wall, so she can heckle the ultimate authority figure: me.)
In the context of the story, she's a human wake-up call for a broken institution, a reminder that there's a difference between being lawful and being good. Which is a lot of responsibility for a 21-year-old just trying to carve out an identity for herself. Almost seems unfair.
Anyway, I'm glad people like her. But who knows when she'll show up in the comic again? (jk she's in tomorrow's update lol)
