The Winter Empress is a fey creature, the regent of a frost-wreathed realm of eternal ice. She is an ambitious monarch and often has her court venture out into the realm of man to bring unnatural winter in their wake. Although some claim to have bested or even slain her, tales of her defeat are often followed by even more frigid devastation at the hands of the vengeful queen of ice. With the utterly devoted Knights of Winter sworn to her service, she is considered one of the most enigmatic, yet powerful of the fair lords and ladies.

Cold Iron Weaponry

Nursery rhymes, bedtime stories and literal fairytales allude to cold iron as a means to ward off, poison or even kill feyfolk. It is unclear what makes cold iron so special, other than iron being a symbol of industrial progress and technology, acting as an opposite to the 'natural' fey. So you can get creative! Is it special iron blessed by the gods, crafted from meteoric ore, found in ancient burial site? It could also just be regular, boring iron - this option however would provide fey with a glaring weakness, as most weapons are made from iron or steel, which in turn consists of mostly iron.

Knights Of Winter

The Winter Empress is a fey creature and the feyfolk do not play fair. To escape the clutches of true death even after she has been slain, her final goodbye is the Parting Kiss. After wounding a creature upon her death, the shards travel three days and nights through the creatures body, barely noticable to the unknowing eye. The creatures temperature drops, its skin becomes cold to the touch and its whole demeanour becomes icy and subdued. If not removed by a Greater Restoration spell or comparable magic, the shard reaches the creatures heart at the dawn of the fourth day, turning the heart into one of pure ice. This marks the birth of a Knight of Winter, as the transformed creature is now driven only by the desire to revive the being it now serves, the Winter Empress herself. To do so a Knight of Winter has to venture forth into her realm, a frost-wreathed land of eternal snow and ice. At its center slumbers the Silent Kiln, a frozen forge where the Winter Smith once tried to master the art of forging iron, in an attempt to expunge the glaring weakness of the feyfolk once and for all. They failed and the forge lies silent still. Upon the Black Ice Anvil within the Silent Kiln, a Knight of Winter may offer their own frozen heart, so that the Winter Smith might reforge their beloved Empress.

Regalia of the Winter Empress
The sword Winter's Kiss and the Aurora Crown were gifted to the Winter Empress by her beloved, the formless Winter Smith. If either the sword or the crown are not in her possession, she can not use the corresponding Actions or Abilities. Without the Aurora Crown, the Winter Empress has an AC of 16. Without Winter's Kiss, her spell save DC is 17 and she has +9 to hit with spell attacks. The Winter Empress draws considerable power from these artefacts and should the Empress fall, it is paramount for her Knights of Winter to reclaim her regalia. While the specific powers granted to her by her royal regalia are unobtainable for anyone but her, these masterworks of the Winter Smith are powerful artefacts by themselves.
