Great reaction and analysis. Having grown up in the '80s, I remember Sade and that song in particular very well. Although, the distorted electric guitar is new. That wasn't on the studio version. The genre she's usually associated with is sophisti-pop. It's a mix of pop, soul and jazz and visually often includes images of affluence and a sort of jet-setter lifestyle. It was very of its time. Other well known artists in the genre are Bryan Ferry and Spandau Ballet. Incidentally, her name is pronounced Sha-day.
