Thank you that's actually a really good way to think of it that I haven't thought of. I'm certainly willing to try! I have a lot of great ideas for music and I'd rather eventually be able to perform it myself than hire someone and have to try to make it sound right. Thank you so much!

It's totally natural to feel nervous and nerves can effect the voice. I have a couple of tips. If you can detach yourself from your voice, think of it as an instrument. You wouldn't judge your guitar if you made a mistake, so try and think of it that way. It's okay to not be perfect. It is also important to try and put yourself in situations that you have to sing and you feel nervous. Start small and build up but do it again and again until you get used to the nerves and until you start to trust your voice. I hope that helps a little. :) x

Yes you can hey better at singing through practice but you can never learn to be confident by practicing. I have definitely noticed an astronomical improvement in my ability to sing with returns that are dependent to how much I practice. But I went 25 years in life without ever singing a note and when I started I would half heartedly practiced occasionally and never got anywhere.
But the last couple of years I have been trying more and more, and the band VOLA has been an impetus for me to take it now seriously. At the beginning I was about as terrible at it as humanly possible. But it turns out that my vocal range rests naturally in the same place as Asger from VOLA, who sounds very much like Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth, and I learned that it's easier for me to try to sing their songs than most other vocalists
Now, I believe I am getting skilled enough to be able to properly perform those properly without mutilating them. I can mimic them quite well and even improvise sometimes while keeping the tone but.... even if I got good enough to sing anything I wanted note for note flawlessly, I still don't believe I'd ever be confident enough to do it in front of another person.
I still get stragefright and feel embarrassed singing with my cats in the room sometimes. I don't know why it just makes me feel silly. I can play a guitar confidently all day no matter who sees tho, without any nerves whatsoever. But I can't even sing along when they're doing happy birthday at someone's party lol. Go figure. But I will keep practicing
