2024-12-04 23:48:14 +0000 UTCThat would be fine and all if it wasn't a story that involved seeing the future. They mention several times that the past/future doesn't change. Eren already saw what he does. Once he gains the full power of the founding it all becomes the same (past and future). We likely live in a deterministic universe our selves and struggle to understand the meaning or even existence of free will. I just don't think that makes Erens choices "always shitty". Up until he receives the memories of the future there was nothing morally wrong with the choices he made. And when he receives those memories, it's already determined that it happens. I think he sits with a sense of guilt that he didn't change what he saw, but nothing we see in the story indicates that he could have changed it.

2024-12-02 03:35:59 +0000 UTCI think Eren has always been able to make a choice but the problem has been all the choices have been shitty. This is a story about someone who, from his point of view, has always made the right decision to the best of his ability and it ultimately ends up with the rumbling. What is sad is that Eren knows this. He even tries to walk away from the kid in the ally to prove he can change the future but he ultimately goes back to save him because that is his nature. He has the power to choose but it would be against his nature to do anything thing else.

2024-11-29 22:24:01 +0000 UTC*vague SPOILERS if you havent finished AoT yet.* Eren tried to stop it numerous times. He said so. He will say it again in the next episode. They showed it when Mikasa was talking about when Eren left them in Marley. A lot of people struggle to understand this. It's hard to come to terms with deterministic reality, but that's what's being hinted at in the show. It will be more apparent in the next episode. It's not so much Eren chose, it's just that Eren was on a set path. He can't do anything. Yet he feels so bad about it that he blames himself anyway, the same way you'll see Armin blame himself in the next one. I'll hold my tongue on it until the next upload though.

2024-11-29 21:36:02 +0000 UTCEren is such an interesting conundrum. I think he both has and doesnt have a choice. (Nonsensical rant) Maybe he had a choice earlier on, but the ultimate choice was made by himself in the future, and he influenced younger him to grow into that mindset (hence why he was already born already like that) Eren flip flops his mindset on this throughout the show, eventually even believing he should be eaten by Historia to prevent more suffering, which is more in line with Zeke. But every season they show you why Eren loses the belief to rely on others and to take chances on hope. Everytime he has, his people die. Basically being ruled by his desires to the point that his desires almost take on a whole other character. Even though Eren still holds responsibility for everything. I agree 100% its a causal loop, but that loop was a decision made by Eren unbeknownst to himself. Just pure tragedy all around. That little kid was always destined to become a monster, even though he never wanted to be

2024-11-29 21:14:06 +0000 UTCEren metaphorically to the people in the world also represents a causality ,a world where sins such as generational hatred, historical relativism, Nationalism between nations , Indoctrination have gone haywire to unredeemable levels ,Making any type of unity and peace impossible, because Marley is afraid of the world and wants the founder and the world hates eldians even more , As Kenny said " everyone was a slave to something", it's quite a controlled amount of hatred and prejudice that humans are very much capable of that resembles our world , but yet he results seem so dysotopian yet so very possible just add more fuel to some general hatred to our own world ,and we see in real time how it has affected, is affecting and ultimately leads to the doom of this World , it is a tragedy of human condition, The show gives no easy out just like in real life , The hatred against the eldians was very strong , imagine if a Nazi Germany conquered the world for 1800 years In the first 3 seasons we have a very direct way of viewing humanity as above everything and above monsters, But then in the last season the show completely reverses itself and showing that this entire conflict wasn't borne out of some fantasy creatures or presently fully unrealistic evil but how humanity themselves are the true monsters. Not just from the marlean side but how our own scouts can abruptly becomes forced to commit horrible acts to the same level or worse. becomes one of the greatest critiques of humanityI have ever seen in any piece of fiction

2024-11-29 14:19:30 +0000 UTCNo, this interpretation is wrong. His line "I guess we never found a way to save the island" is him trying to understand his decision and why he would make it, assuming that it must be a last resort. This episode revealed why he did it, he did it because he wanted to. He says as much to Ramzi, the outside world and its people got in the way of him obtaining freedom, they were oppressing him, so in his mind meant the outside world must be destroyed for him to experience this freedom. He doesn't know where this desire for freedom came from though. Eren allows her to choose to go with him and end the world or stay here trapped. Eren wanted the rumbling not Ymir. Ymir went along with it because she saw no value to life after what she experienced, this gets touched upon later.
Man Lit
2024-11-29 13:06:15 +0000 UTCYeah, that sounds pretty spot on. I like to think Eren was essentially born from Ymir's desire for freedom, starting with the first inheritor of the Attack Titan. All the inheritors of the Attack Titan were just stepping stones leading to Eren. So, when Eren hugs Ymir and says, 'You've been waiting for 2000 years, for someone...' that's the moment he realizes his desire to free her from her chains will set the Rumbling into motion. (And part of him believes the world deserves it—shown through the child version of Eren when he's with Ymir.)

2024-11-28 22:20:06 +0000 UTCSorry, I should have been clearer. I mean he doesn’t know until after. He basically says as much at the beginning of this special. “I guess we never found a way to stop the rumbling”. Add to this the thing I’m implying. Eren doesn’t actually start the rumbling, Ymir does. Why? Because Eren says she can decide. The whole point is to set her free. That’s the reason she stops obeying Zeke, Eren is telling her that she can do what she wants. Unfortunately, Eren has seen the future, so he’s pretty sure she wants him to end the world. That’s what I meant when I say, he doesn’t know why. Until he touches Ymir, he doesn’t understand the fact that he will cause the rumbling.

2024-11-28 21:42:32 +0000 UTCEren does know why, he just doesn't know where those underlying motivations came from.

2024-11-28 19:54:41 +0000 UTCNotice how Reiner was struggeling with the ODM gear, because this the new version that Paradis developed from that was used by Kenny's squad, so he wasn't used to it

2024-11-28 19:47:22 +0000 UTCGood catch from Lia Yes, Levi and Mikasa due to their Ackerman origin have like a 6th sense.

2024-11-28 19:43:34 +0000 UTCLook at it all this way. Eren didn’t know exactly why he chose to do the rumbling, but we never saw him do that. What we did see is him giving Ymir a choice. Do what you want with that idea. That’s just how I see this.

2024-11-28 17:05:32 +0000 UTCPrecisely as Molly says at the beginning, it is no one's fault, but everyone had a part to play in it. Why did we go far as to drop two nukes on Japan, sacrificing 250k people, to end a war which would've been more bloodlessly resolved if handled diplomatically by all parties? Eren is the Nuke stand-in here; the last resort violent answer.

2024-11-28 16:31:31 +0000 UTCThey’ll eventually figure out that eren/ymir was using the War Hammer titan to make a Beast titan. Hence the lighting visuals and sound. Happy thanks giving to all btw 🦃
