This is exactly what I like about Zandar as a character. If you’ve read Zandar’s saga, one thing becomes very clear about her: She’s rarely dangerous to others... unless provoked. All of Zandar’s most HORRIFYING activities have always been as a result of her or someone she cares about being wronged. She is almost a literal spirit of vengence, and although her activities can be horrifying, it’s tough for me to just write her off as a “bad person”. Left to her own devices, Zandar is actually fairly sociable, if a bit rough around the edges. Taken just from his role in Zandar’s Saga, Adler Young is actaully someone I’d say is more villainous than Zandar. His behavior in Zandar’s saga has much less context to it: We seem him as a nice enough chap at first, but with a slightly unhinged streak to him. “A plague of wars” for example, seems like something comical and made up to explain various bodies that Zandar encounters within Adler’s abode. But again, just within the context of Zandar’s story, he seduces her, romances her, and then steals away her child from her and implies (but never outright states) that he devoured the lowfolk baby he swapped her with (“I made stew!”). Beyond that, he uses Zandar to slaughter a whole town of Rabbits, and has continually stalked her and meddled with her life. Granted, since their falling out Zandar hasn’t exactly treated him with any sort of respect, but then, why WOULD she? He basically has ruined her life twice. You can say that Zandar is in many cases the maker of her own woes, but Adler certainly hasn’t exactly done her any favors either. They’re both interesting characters to me, but Adler really came off as much more of an antagonist until “The Ballad of Adler Young” came out and humanized him a bit.
