Manual Optimization

Jeez, Patreon isn't really set up for comics, is it?

When I started here, I didn't understand what "tags" were for.  I thought they were general search terms, but actually they're more like filing tabs which I can use to group posts into categories so they will show up together.  I posted most of the Zandar's Saga recap without tags, which essentially makes them invisible.  You can't find them because they are buried way down below the browser-stalling threshold:

The backlog of posts is displayed in an endlessly cascading manner (much like Tumblr, which shares a LOT of similarities with Patreon in terms of structure & functionality).  This will break your browser if you scroll down far enough.  I don't understand why any website would be designed this way, but they are .. I guess the designers don't expect anybody to ever want to go back and look at old archived posts.  Unlike Tumblr, I don't see any way for me to set a "maximum posts per page" display limit to make Patreon behave in a more sensible manner.

I thought I'd add a "Zandar" tag to all the untagged posts, because that would help, right?  But whoops, there isn't a batch edit (not one that I can find anyway) so I guess I have to go back and tag each one individually.  While I'm at it, I might as well add navigation links (which also have to be brute-forced; there's no handy bbcode shortcut for them that I am aware of) so readers can float through the story without having to deal with that infinite-cascade issue.

New posts will be properly tagged and have nav links, because I have learned my lesson.  But the old ones .. If you've noticed the number of "Zandar" posts increasing on my front page despite me not actually posting any new pages, it's because I have been tagging existing posts, linking them up and adding them to the list.  I'm about halfway done.  It's laborious.

But I have to ask:  IS THIS WORTHWHILE or am I just wasting time?  Is anyone really interested in reading that backlog, or are you just going to FA for the full uncensored version?  Should I do the same thing with the Sciurus Magus comic?

Sex scenes are going to be handled in an R rated manner. We'll see how spicy I think I can get away with when the time comes.

Good to know the pages are being kept by someone other than me.

I already have the entire Saga archive downloaded (individually, from whenever I first started reading however many years ago)....... I just have to go through and fix the filenames of some of the newer pages and add them to the archive folder. So, if you ever have some kind of disaster, and lose all your files, I've got you covered ;) I have been curious, as to how you're going to manage future Saga pages on here with the content restriction? Is there just going to be no more sexual nudity in the story, or will all future pages have to have that "button" over it? or will those pages be posted to FA? Also, this text field is crap. it doesn't scroll along with the text. Not your issue, of course. could be on my end, who knows.

Okay, that's enough justification for me to continue the drudge work of adding tags and nav links to all those posts. When I get the Saga all done then I will go back and add links to the Sciurus story. Probably should have done that as I was posting them, but I didn't know the archive view was as bad as it is.

i re-checked and most people with comics here do something like "If you pay X you also get a pdf/zip-file of all the comics/art up [until now]/[in a month of your choosing] in your inbox" so that they get a bit of a boost from the first month (or the first few months) that patrons come here, even though usually patrons pay once for that and go back to the "let me just get the daily message" level after first month. Personally? Now that i think about it I'd really like to have a level where i get a monthly package of all the stuff posted on patreon. Even if i get daily messages. While the "you get all the art after the monthly payment" route is usually chosen by those who do not like scammers, some artists seem to also like "you get a single month of art", but it's usually people that do not post everything here on patreon and put here only previews, while sending direct inbox messages to the patrons with the actual art once they start paying.

I assure you it is extremely worthwhile. Also some people have been able to set some tags as "important" or something so that they show up on a special side button. Finally: patreon does have a "per month" grouping but it is currently non-functional. Or at least all i get is: "the creator has produced nothing for this month" while it shows also clearly that the person did produce something which i can access at mi patron level. It just is broken at the moment. Going by month is the only way i saw of trying to get things in a sensible matter.
