One of my favorite clichés in fantasy novels is that the main character has a favorite pet.
If the hero is lonely, he/she is bound to meet an animal that becomes attached to him/her and follows him/her everywhere.
Sometimes the author fantasizes and gives the furry creature consciousness and intelligence.
Sometimes the beast is an enchanted prince or princess, in which our MH more than once gets naked while bathing in the lake and pleases with piercing eyes of the animal.
Also this faithful friend will surely help the hero in a difficult moment.
In the saga "Dragon Heart", the warrior Hadjar also has a magical friend from the cat family.
