Progress Report

Yesterday saw some work done on Day 15, however I hit something of a wall and wasn't happy with the quality of what I was producing. You have your good days and you have your bad. Yesterday was certainly the latter.

However I did put a considerable amount of time into the 0.30 update instead, so at least it wasn't time wasted. At long last, I've finally completed the compatibility system for older save files and currently we've got 0.25b in testing alongside a prototype 0.30 build to make sure that the save files 0.25b produces can be reconstructed in 0.30. It was a LOT of work to get this working but it's showing a lot of promise, I've tested it with several save files imported from old versions of Sileo and resaved in 0.25b and 0.30 has handled them all flawlessly thusfar.

But I bet you're wondering what the screenshot above is, right? Well, the reconstruction of save files isn't something that happens silently in the background, rather loading one of these saves will instead send you into a special scene with a very special avian assistant!

One of the key reasons we've done it this way is that Spencer can offer specific feedback when something goes awry rather than the usual convoluted traceback screens. It's not to say Spencer will catch all of the errors, but most of the common issues he will feed back to the user and even log useful data in the log file - chucking us those log files will help immensely in ironing out the kinks in this system.

If testing of 0.25b and 0.30 together goes well, we hope to be able to launch 0.25b in the coming days. This will properly address the issues from earlier this month rather than just work around them and will lay the foundations required for the upcoming 0.30 update. It will essentially be the beginning of the end for the 0.2X line of builds, although we still very much anticipate July's release will be 0.26 as 0.30 still has a lot of work left to do.

Anyway, I'd better get back to it. Day 15 won't write itself and I'm so far behind with it it isn't funny!
