Progress Report

I dun dun diddly done it again, y'all!

So I finished the scratch version of Day 13 yesterday and sat down today to finish the version I would send off to the team. It started off well, making good progress. I reached about 40%, and took a short break. Even sent a message to the team, which read 'Alright I'm about 40% done with the polish right now. So far, things are going smoothly, but now that I've said so it's all gonna go to shit.' So, can you guess what happened as soon as I resumed my work?

If you answered 'Ya dun goofed, Xevvy!', you're 100% correct!

I proceeded to spend the rest of my day adding a long, winding and dramatic section of dialogue with a certain character that really didn't even need to be there to begin with. A block of exposition that was never supposed to be explored on Day 13 and was only intended to be touched upon on Day 15, is now smack bang in the middle of Day 13,  screwing up the pacing as it drags the entire scene to a jarring halt. Not to mention, it's the kind of dramatic, overcomplicated world-building exposition that not everybody will come to appreciate. You remember that time in Diego's route where Jay dropped a little nugget of information that explained away the VN trope where everyone is a gay dude? Imagine that, but 10x longer and more detailed. That's basically what you're getting here.

So, are we gonna keep it? No idea. The hope is that even if the sequence is cut, we can hopefully reuse the dialogue another time, perhaps where it will fit better. Whether or not we keep it will ultimately come down to the team and whether or not they feel like it's worth having. No promises. The worst part? It's not even the only scene that might be cut, as another scene later in the day goes against the original plan by providing you, the reader, with more information than the protagonist Adrian gets to know about, resulting in a situation where you watch in dismay as Adrian makes a whole mess of a situation because he simply doesn't know any better. I thought this might be cool. But it might also be super painful. Time will tell if we keep that bit in. 

Soooo, yeah. Sigh. When will I learn? And to think, things were going so smoothly too. I suppose the silver lining is that the first 40% of the day is ready to go. But the rest? I've still got many long hours ahead of me to get this big chungus of a VN day ship shape. So, uhh, yeah. Wish me luck and all that shit. Hopefully I can beat this thing into shape quickly enough that I can put myself through a similar misery with Day 14 next weekend!
