Hi everyone.
I ended my last post of 2020 with the words "May 2021 be a kinder year than the last, to all of us."
A little over a week into 2021, that wish seems almost farcical. I began the year with a sudden night of complete insomnia, and have slept poorly most nights since. The US went through a fascist coup-attempt whose aftershocks are still playing out, and will for some time.
And on the morning of January 7th, my maternal grandmother passed away.
While this was not unexpected - she has been ill for nearly half of my life, and has been steadily declining for the last decade - it was sudden, and we are dealing with all of the changes to our lives that that entails. I was not particularly close with my grandmother, and so this feels more strange than harrowing for me, but it is still a lot to deal with - especially figuring out funeral arrangements during a pandemic - and so I am taking some days away from working to help my family members find their footing again.
I will be slow in responding to emails and comments here and on Twitter, but I do appreciate the support.
Thank you all for your patience and understanding - and while I spend this time figuring things out, I'll leave you with these scattered bits of Grassblades pages, covers, and me figuring out what the heck my main characters look like after a year and a half of hiatus.
