hi everyone. i finished another scene. i think the first draft of the script was posted here as well because it won the vote... its length is better than the previous scenes at 15 pages. in all likelihood the entire beginning sequence will be removed, which will bring it closer to 10.

evelyn and adam were challenging to draw in this scene because as older people, their wrinkles tend to make them look way angrier than they are, since those wrinkles are usually drawn on younger characters with only really exaggerated tense expressions. i have a feeling i will be editing a lot of them.

the colors during time freezes are also meant to be in full color, but i ended up fiddling with them a lot and i still found it unsatisfying... i've included a sample of the page where she first stops time with what i was going for, but i decided to just use black and white in the sketch because i was spending so long fighting the colors.
a lot of little continuity details tripped over the time freeze, such as speech bubbles being actually frozen, because speech bubbles are actual visible phenomena in their world, which would necessarily have implications about how speech bubbles spawn blow-by-blow based on how a partially formed speech bubble looks. all at once? typed out letter by letter like in a video game? full size immediately or growing from the tail? etc.

i am not happy with act 1's pace so far. i'll be editing the structure of act 1 to merge 3 different scenes into just one, because none of them are very strong on their own, but "logically need to be that way" due to chronology. i will probably spend a couple of days problem-solving and ironing out those issues. i will sort of undercut that effort by drawing in the scene i cut before where jessie makes herself invincible and immortal alone in her bedroom before i begin drawing act 2, though.

the changes between the script cleaning and cut of the beginning of this scene mean that i will probably need to alter the ending of this scene, the previous scene, and the beginning here all to fix the match cuts that are hooking scenes together.

(also you can see a continuity note i wrote about the fire hydrant in the first page... lmao)
