2025-07-04 15:23:07 +0000 UTCThe biggest issue for wind farms right now isn't even in getting that social licence anymore, the 2 main problems are in planning pathways being massively complicated outside of NSW, and the commercial settings in getting a project profitable in the short-medium term - because of the price volititility the market for supplies (turbines, blades, high voltage wires) is jumping around a lot and there are no easy risk allocation agreements between developers and EPC contractors

2025-07-03 22:59:04 +0000 UTCOn the point about it being “better” for sheep, I haven’t seen any benefit but the sheep do literally sit under the towers all day when resting so there might be something there about the relaxing noise. Also never seen a bird get hit or dead at the wind farm. Tbh I think we kill more birds when we pump tanks of chemicals on crops weekly but that’s another story 🙃

2025-07-03 06:24:34 +0000 UTCI’m a farmer in South Australia and we have part of a wind farm in the hills on our property that is literally used for grazing sheep and nothing else. It’s about $10k a tower for our farm which has basically drought proofed us and it’s literally for land we couldn’t crop in anyway, it hasn’t negatively affected us at all and I can see the whole thing out my kitchen window, it looks sick. I cannot get boomers issue with wind farms, tbh I think it’s just jealous farmers who missed out on the cash

Ancient hollow-bearing trees clear-felled, subterranean herpetofauna munched up by excavators - every fauna encounter is like being the first responder to a car crash, sometimes involving entire families. In NSW, I know this happens regardless of the development and best practices are mostly followed, but shit can get really real.
