I dated a girl from Nimbin for a year. Her family had thick bogan accents, and her dad knew just a few words other than “cunt”. But her much younger brother grew up needing speech therapy, so he spoke LITERALLY the Queen’s English! In Nimbin 😂

Loved the big rob story! I lived in lismore when i went to uni over 10 years ago now. Rob was a local celebrity back then, owning two kebab shops on the same block while illegally living out the back of one of them

By the way, Coles rejects 90% of applicants. Maybe for smooth handed urban city gentlemen like yourselves it is easier to find a job due to ample opportunities and surrounding infrastructure, but don’t make out like it’s easy for the rest of the population outside of city centers. If you’re young with no experience, no connections in some rural or regional town, you’re fucked

Re: new start,
I live at home still and recently started a uni course, doing it full time but also working 3 days a week, my pay has been reduced to 800 a week and Im now on casual, according to Centrelink I earn 600 dollars a week too much to qualify for any assistance, the only debt I have is my car loan and a mobile phone and I'm straight up going backwards 😅

Yep. And the hoops you need to jump through to get it when you have a family is embarrassing almost looking at the forms recently. Plus the fear of being called a cheat by Centrelink. Then of course, if you lose your job and they pay you out, you need to wait 4 weeks minimum. For working class with a mortgage, it's not worth going on it. Better to do cash jobs until you find the job the pays better. It was changed by Howard to be like this so of course.

On New Year's Eve last year, I ruptured my Achilles tendon and fractured my leg after having an unfortunate encounter with a stingray while launching me sail boat off the beach here in Adelaide. I had surgery a couple of weeks into January and have been off work ever since (I'm hoping to return to my role as an ICU Nurse in a few weeks).
I was told I could apply for temporary JobSeeker while I was recovering and so I went through the process of applying, giving them all of my details and my wife's details - including income - and was told I would be fine to receive payments. When I started submitting her payslips, it turns out I didn't qualify because melt wife earns too much. I spent fucking 6 weeks on the application and it was a huge waste of time. We've been under HUGE financial stress ever since and have had to beg for a pause to our mortgage payments otherwise we would go under. It pushed me to the edge - along with the stress of my injury and recovery - I seriously thought about suicide for a time. Centerlink are supreme cunts. When I asked them, What do I do now? it was put to me that I should consider a GoFundMe - straight out of that cunt Dutton's playbook. It's been a horrible time and I can appreciate the sewer being on the dole is.

Glad you’re safe. Truly scary.
My understanding is that Boulder is quite progressive. Have you felt any change since the election? Or over time in general?

At 36:00, that’s complete fiction. That is not why Trump has turned on Netanyahu, it is because Israel was behind the signal chat leaks.
Is the geopolitics talks just becoming Ali’s fantasy land? because it sure seems detached from reality

I live in Colorado and was actually in downtown Boulder grabbing lunch with some friends when the attack happened. We were one street over so we only heard shit go down and honestly thought it was a shooting at first. I only caught a glance Pearl Street (where it happened) about 1/2 hour later as we gtfo of town and by that point they had everything pretty blocked up and corralled off. Scary stuff though

Agreed, and I'd add to that allowing those on welfare the basic dignity to enter a relationship without having payments affected and therefore being forced to become dependent on their partner

Age pension, carers payment and DSP entrench poverty for our most vulnerable. Those of us who are forced onto one of these payments through no fault of our own have it really tough. Still, I’m very thankful that we have this, and I hope it continues to improve in other ways eg higher thresholds before welfare payments reduce, more hours allowed to be worked if you’re a carer, paying carers more instead of paying an employee through NDIS to look after the child/adult with the disability

Our Dole is nowhere near the best in the world. It’s good, and other safety nets like Medicare and the NDIS and food banks and social
housing help, but Newstart is so low that it entrenches poverty rather than providing an way out. The only way to survive is to be ‘institutionalised’ by the dole, social housing, and all the other stuff that comes with that. It’s not something that can tide you over when you loose your job, leave a partner, or have someone major happen in your life. It’s not enough to study on, you need to work on the side (fine, but it undermines the value we put on education), and needs serious work. Labor have reversed the trend in how far it is below the poverty line but it’s still only around 70% of the way back. It’s a national disgrace for a country that’s meant to be the land of the fair go. It should act as a springboard, it doesn’t do this to anywhere near the extent one would hope for
