During summer/spring there were days where I got so sneezy and taking antihistamines did nothing (I didn't want to take the strong ones that made me drowsy the whole day). Wearing a mask on those days slowed the sneezing fits.

Can't agree with that. I am in a position where I need to replace my Stolen and written off VF Calais wagon, I HATE suvs because they handle worse, are slower and excessively big. But I'm going to be buying a cx9 because it's close to the Holden in size for my family with three kid seats. Which the Holden does well. And yet the drivers seat is designed for a short person vs the Holden. Its a poor rhetoric to say people don't want the commodores etc. The fact is the utes are a better tax write off and there's no competent replacement that is as durable. And we can't match the Thai for building utes due to Thier subsidies.

I went to my uni's socialist/anti-capitalist club to see what 'ideas' they had, similar to Ali. About 3 out of 10 were wearing masks (I still wear a mask on public transport and did find it odd), 1 was non-white and they were friendly. The speaker played a clip from US congress then went onto talk about Aus. housing, worker power etc. They then opened it to "questions" which were 3 min (times!) speeches repeating points and drowning in capitalist misery. The take away I had from that (and Ali's story) was that the socialist movement won't succeed due to being too insular. They took works of history as timeless facts, as if human understanding doesn't evolve (like bibles for Christians or Adam Smith for economists). An effective socialist would be Yanni Varoufakis, who shares the sentiment and has the flexibility to find solutions to alleviate the ills of capitalism.

Just on the masking and COVID stuff - some of us still need to because we either have a condition that means we still need to, or we might care for someone who is vulnerable. I get why it could be weird for most people to see this despite you being able to go back to normal, but please keep that in mind when you see a person in a mask out and about

Nojrants did a great video on Soviet historiography, he touches on socioeconomic hierarchies going from feudalism to capitalism to communism, you should think of them as distinct phases but rather checkpoints that you can be in between (like 1900’s Russia having feudal land laws from the 1000’s) and that we can commit to actions that move us towards the checkpoints (nationalising/socialising systems isn’t capitalism, we’re just performing these actions under capitalism)

The drama with the Australian car making industry was terribly poor management. The companies were making cars that no one wanted to buy. Large sedans. If Toyota made the Hilux here, and if Ford made the Ranger here they would be building the #1 and #2 selling cars currently in Australia. GM moved away from all RHD markets. So for Holden, fuckem'.

Holden did export. Just like Toyota did in Australia. The last Commodore is still better than any dual cab ute on the road for any Normal car user. Most people never go off road or tow. The rhetoric on them being shit is leftover from the 90s. GM and American unions limited Holden's exports. The fact cops love the Holden Caprice as a car but were limited to importing them says a lot. America is very protectionist and always has been.
