I take from this, that Dutton holds the seat by around 2% which would surely make it a marginal seat - right? If Dickson is a traditionally Liberal seat, then I reckon you're probably right - any Liberal stooge would probably win it. I can't see how France, who has contested the seat three times already and lost can win it. Jordies may have some wisdom on this one that would explain a pathway to victory. If the amputee card gets rolled out for another play, I suspect a sizable portion of voters will be turned off by it and vote against her. Even the Labor values rhetoric is a risky play because if it didn't cut through last time, it's not going to cut through this time. I just can't see it.

It more like someone who has consistently scraped through by the skin of his teeth (preference flows notwithstanding). I find it difficult to understand what his appeal actually is. Is it entirely transactional? Does he actually have genuine friends? Dutton seems to me, to be a policy free zone. His only contribution to the polity is to vote against anything Labor does - and he wants a Putin-styled FSB in Australia. That's it. That's all he has to offer. So I'm fucked I know what his appeal is to the voters in Dickson.

Do you think the fact that she is an amputee is a net positive or a net negative for her campaign? I used to think it was a sure thing, that it would court a certain proportion of the sympathy vote in the seat. Like, who's going to stick the boot in (no pun intended) to an amputee who is otherwise articulate, intelligent and attractive? I now think large proportion of the QLD electorate are vicious, venomous enough to cast Ali France as trying to parlay a kind of victim narrative around her amputation in order to court that sympathy vote and they will punish her accordingly. As far as I'm aware, I don't think she used this as a tactic. The few media appearances I've seen of her have been fairly milke-toast (promoting her Labor values, her commitment to the people of Dickson yada, yada, yada). It has been the media who have played up her personal history around the amputation and I don't believe this has been done for innocuous reasons. Disability, personal struggle over tragic events are now seen by the dumb fuck right in this country as "Woke" (I fucking hate that term). I think it is the reason why she failed at the last election and I suspect she'll lose this time around.
