Seeing Jordan bring Ali's personal dream up just to shit on it made me cry. Actual tears. I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard. It was just so cruel and unnecessary.

So my understanding, is Orwell was a socialist middle class Brit who was motivated by Franco and the Spanish civil war to engage with his ideology. This led to a jading experience with the (was gonna fact check myself but I'm off an edible) purges that were occuring at this time. Not just the red army and the purging the remaining acolytes of Leninist but also the Comintern (international communism) was rife with popular or merely independent foreign communists being basically summoned to lubyanka. Whether the specific fears and torture used on Wilson was relatable to a specific Orwell is still a very notable fellow traveller who distanced himself from sovietism as a flavour of communism. Also it fucks me off when people equate modern Russia with the mildly positive intellectual residue of attempted socialism.
