Thanks mate! I love VDH, his articles are also worth reading over at his website. And I like Wolff a lot too. He’s one of the few socialists that threatens to truly “red” pill me! VDH might be as critical of the pre Trump Republicans as Wolff is of the Dems, but bc they’ve mostly died off, it’s not as big an issue now. I think it’s often forgotten that Trump ran against the Republican establishment first, and actually, a lot of his base hates them even more than the Dems. A lot of them would vote for Obama etc simply bc they were, economically, seen as the lesser of two evils. I agree with your summary of the key causes but I’d add Democrat malfeasance (of course I would lol). They’ve lost a lot of trust, as the Republicans rightly did in the 2000s. If they impeach a president twice, indict him 5 times (mug shot and all), throw some of his associates in jail, and try to bar him from the electorate in several states, but STILL lose to him, bigly, even in the popular vote … then they gotta know deep down they’ve truly lost the trust of the majority.

Ali im tired of your senseless doomer mindset. This is the lucky country mate, try having some optimism

Just to make it longer, towards the end of the interview provides a good case for Jordans argument against tertiary funding for f.arts degrees. I never took a f.art subject so I can't pass judgement.

Re: I listened to the VDH interview (1.5 speed) and would say the was a non-antagonistic interview (despite interviewer was on 2hrs sleep and was "angry") which should be viewed with the other Half (https://youtu.be/_8iOadxZHvs) w/ Rich Wolff, who unlike VDH, is more critical of his "camp" than VDH is of Donald. I couldn't find analysis regarding appeal along racial boundaries, is there a timestamp? election post mortems are still early, but the factors that seemed to sway voters were: - it's the economy stupid - Democrats general incompetence (Many facets, betting on them not learning anything from this) - Personality of Donald: authenticity and general messaging. Preference for a non politician, regardless of crass-ness. Thanks for your "alternate" views Hill Billy, looks forward to that story!

Wish I had heard Alis rant here before I bet $100 on Kamala

Mila

If ur wondering how the hell a majority could vote for a vicious racist sexist narcissistic sociopath felon, including 46% of Hispanics, 53% of white women, 21% of Black men … then this interview might help. It’s the author of “The Case for Trump” in a friendly discussion w. a Kamala voter, 1 week before the election. Namaste, y’all 🥰 https://youtu.be/gHU6x-9rhzQ?si=Bjpi-jBMx_KMfLy1

Love your final sentence and wholly agree with it.

As someone studying a Master's in Statistics considering their future career path, I would agree with Jordan about the process. There's too many "holes" (sources of bias, errors, assumptions etc) inherent in polling methodologies that getting a good statistic let alone something predictive is (at least to me) tantamount to reading tea leaves. Also, while not my research niche (I try to read anything remotely related to maths in general if notable), I don't see much research regarding more accurate polling methods (might be a more social science thing) and not convinced they "fixed" their errors from 2016. There's a general misconception that polls are predictive, especially how volatile and complex the problem of gauging the vibes are. Polls at best are indicative of today, and looking at general poll trends are better, but in an election where people are googling: https://www.sfgate.com/tech/article/google-election-searches-19890413.php The polls are an activity for media class, less an information excercise.

Take another lesson in solidarity Jordan. Education is education. Work is work. The market acts on wages, not as a gatekeeper for aspiration.

George

You guys should talk less about US politics and more about Mislav’s dick

Hill Billy

One thing's for certain - I'll never take notice of a fucking poll *ever again*. Ali's pre-election call was bang on the money. The man is a savant.

Dean

I've watched Jordan for over a decade and I don't think his accent has changed but his voice has definitely deepened a tad. Probably from the cigarettes.

Hedgethechu

That point about RFK and Charles Koch makes total sense and is really interesting. He’s only siding with him because it’s convenient for his business interests and not so much the interests of other billionaires.

Jack

Ali pls just ban the accent dickhead

Emi

Humanities degrees should be twice the price and stem and medicine should be free 😂

Darien M

Jordan continuously being wrong throughout this podcast is too funny.

Hedgethechu

Ali you can definitely hear the bits of Aussie in your accent bro.
