2024-10-28 03:41:02 +0000 UTCAs an ex-pate Victorian who has made South Australia home, I can attest to the variety Adelaide and it surrounds offers. Indeed, the vast majority of South Australia is desert which has served it well for Hollywood in the past (think Mad Max, Gallipoli, Pitch Black, any number of Mars films). South Australia's agriculture includes wheat, barley, canola, grapes, citrus sheep, beef and dairy cattle. Adelaide is a thoroughly decent cosmopolitan city offering dining, entertainment, the arts, sports, shopping, education and decent living. Within an hour of Adelaide, you have the Barossa in the North, McLaren Vale in the South - arguably two of Australia's finest wine regions. Adelaide also has some of the best beaches within 20 minutes of the CBD. My wife and I are both Nurses with two teenaged kids and we live in a suburb that is walking distance from the city center. We have a great life here. It's not outlandish by any means but we're not on the skin of our arses by any means. Next time you're in Adelaide, I'm more than happy to join you for an impromptu tour of my local area which has a couple of great cafes and pubs that are brilliant. ...Of course, Salman Rushdie once described Adelaide as the perfect city to set a Stephen King novel.
