A lot of my mates ended up in farming, healthcare (doctors and nurses), teaching, or mining engineering. If you were more hands-on, you’d often leave school at year 10 to start a trade. Typical country life, I guess!

The racists in the south were mostly Democrats (called “Dixiecrats”) — the founder of the Dems, Andrew Jackson, was a vicious slave owner, and the party was built on a pro-worker platform. Emancipate slaves compete for jobs, and the Dems served to protect white workers. The main turning point was the civil rights movement in the 60s. It was bipartisan, but LBJ was the president, he had MLK’s ear, and Barry Goldwater (the Republican leader) had turned the party more conservative, etc. You would still find some hardcore racists and bible thumpers in the Democrats. E.G., Biden has received slack cause he eulogized Robert Byrd in 2010, who was a Dem senator for decades after being a branch leader of … the fucking KKK. Nixon and Reagan (and Trump) also courted a fair degree of nativism to woo former Dixiecrats to their party. Apparently we’re witnessing another major turning point in US politics. Party realignment etc. Fascinating time to be alive

2024-07-24 22:59:31 +0000 UTCI just banked up 3 weeks worth of pods (main and up late) for my flights back from Europe. Man - what a fucking treat. Quickest flights ever. I don’t even really remember being on the planes. There was however a moment when I was laughing out in hysteria listening to Mislav’s legal issues while everyone else was sleeping around me. The lady next to me was very pissed off. Mislav analysis pods really hit me hard. Keep em coming boys - still waiting on the House of Leaves outcome? Also I have a story you guys might like from my time in Edinburgh last week. My partner and I were planning on seeing some comedy. I did some research and found what looked like some really cool upcoming venues doing some different stuff - like Neil kolhatkar’s more recent style etc. Anyway my partner was not keen on trying something that didn’t have many reviews so instead we went to one of the more common venues. I get there and the first few acts were great - a couple of Scottish folks just saying silly things (I laugh when I hear Scottish people saying pretty much anything). But then the headline act comes strutting out and it is fucking Tom Ballard… I was in shock. I could barely watch. He legit just kept getting his gross belly out and smacking it. He kept going on about the multiple awards that he had won. And he went on about how shit Australia is - talked about the failed voice to parliament and blamed our failures on our current government. It was embarrassing and I felt so so ashamed to be Australian. Anyway love your work guys. Thank you for the good times. I am going to sleep for 20 hours now that I am back in my Tasmanian convict prison cell. All the best

As far as I know the democratic party is the oldest party and used to oppose the Whigs...which then broke apart and the republican party was then formed from the ruins of the Whigs...so Dems support slavery and Republicans dont..so why would the blacks not vote for Republicans?
