But seriously, everyone knows large donors control the parties, that’s generally how it’s been. And while you’re right about the media pile on, most people are quietly smarter than you admit in some ways. Many Americans viewed this as 2020 2.0 and didn’t see any real change so they chose not to vote. The Democratic Party only stands to gain votes with Kamala as those who choose not to vote may view her as a real change. Similarly, most people already voting for Biden aren’t going to not vote for Kamala. Biden riders aren’t there just for Biden. Also, black churches, do you really truly believe that having a black woman run for presidency is going to alienate black people? It’s a risk, but from all calculations, it’s a risk where you only stand to gain. Nobody voting for Biden is going to not vote nor vote for Trump or independent. Biden was way more charismatic than Kamala when he worked though, I fully agree. And Kamala has a heap of issues as a candidate. I do agree, I personally prefer Biden, but I think the gaffs were just too much and we needed some new blood.

2024-07-25 10:50:14 +0000 UTCI don’t understand your thought process here. These guys are first and foremost open minded, critical thinkers who enjoy challenging their own beliefs and assumptions. For example, Jordan literally praised Nixon the other day, and Ali has had several good things to say about Trump over the years, going way back to 2017. These guys *excel* at the art of being open minded and critical. I just feel like that’s been missing a bit recently re. US politics. I agree with Jordan on some things and disagree on others. Jordan and Michael West disagree on the HAFF, Jordan and Ali disagree about a million things and still respect each other … There’s nothing wrong with disagreement. And I have no problem with most of the other “left-leaning” elements of the pod e.g., pro-Labor Party, open-minded about USSR etc.

You like Newsom, but won’t address the failures of California. Ali cites John Oliver to tackle one of the most divisive topics in the US. You treat certain sources as 100% honest/accurate, as if, for example, the few psychiatrists who say Trump has dementia couldn’t have ulterior motives. You cite congressional Black/Hispanic caucus support for Biden, but neglect that Trump got a larger share of both groups than any Republican in decades, or how police unions have turned their backs on the Dems. You believed one solitary source that said Trump wanted crocodiles in a moat to protect the border, as if we’re back in 2016 again and everything Trump said or allegedly said needs to be taken 100% literally. I think you guys make some great points and are much more serious thinkers than most pundits. Your analysis of the donor & media class, for example, is a gem of this pod that can’t be found elsewhere. But this gets lost in the weeds of hot takes & speculation. Jordan’s retrospective analysis in 2016 was excellent; why not wait til the dust settles and analyze things with 20-20 hindsight?

2024-07-24 12:19:57 +0000 UTCJust ignoring Lachlan as usual but yes the CNN and MSNBC faction was not exactly ignoring his age, they would entertain the idea with republican pundits which made the notion fertile and seem like it's a legitimate concern which it isn't, but no they weren't at his throat for it. The entire republican echosystem of media however had been banging on about it for years. Endlessly. It was a highlly penetrative narrative. If it wasn't age it would have been something else. As soon as they realised trying to smear him as corrupt wasn't gaining traction they moved to just talking about him being old. Non stop. As such he was tarred with it. If he wasn't tarred with that he would have been tarred with something else. There's always something else. Then after the debate CNN and MSNBC joined in and brought it to a fever pitch and why? Because the large donors of the democrats were witholding money from his campaign which are the same people that run these outlets/sponsor them. That's all. If the donors wanted to keep him in as they've made very clear with their actions he'd still be in. The fact that they're not even keeping that as a secret is actually quite scary. They're openly celebrating that mega donors own the office of the president. Openly. I've heard barely a story that doesn't mention how good it is that Biden's campaign was choked of funds and a few people got to decide to remove a sitting president despite the vast majority of his party wanting him to stay in 9 out of 10 sitting democrats, trade unions, black churches, hispanic orgs. The fact it's not even seen as something to be bashful about that a few billionaires can dispose of a president at a whim is frightening enough. But everyone going along and pretending like this is a huge W is even scarier.

The man looked tired and slow and so far there seems to be a lot of hope and belief in Harris shown with the amount of money poured into her campaign

She is someone with a clean slate that Democrats can unite over in defeating Trump. They can spin Biden as a great president now, with Harris as CONTINUING with his program as she's in a unique position as the vice president so can claim the wins as a group project. Harris just has to pump Trump campaign on the criminal aspects i.e. "I prosecuted criminals like Trump". Jordan, double down on your gambling addiction ;) New edit: Jordan's point about the media narrative around Biden being old is incorrect. The media only turned against Biden after a pathetic debate performance where it became obvious he was senile and demented... Dementia patients often have bursts of energy (ask a hospital wardsperson) by the way. Non-msm has been critical of Biden and his age from years ago and haven't just started regurgitating talking points.

It all starts with getting rid of the illegals which trump consistently refers to “the biggest deportation act in USA history”. Harris doesn’t offer much in terms of experience, and I know that sounds crazy, but even as a VP she doesn’t have a very good portfolio of successful achievements. She’s much like pence, *what is he known for??* The majority of Americans wouldn’t be able to tell you. She’s also very well known for fumbling her role at the border and convicting black fathers to jail over small drug charges before her VP role and many people haven’t forgotten that. That was also a very big controversial topic against her when she was running for VP. She has a sour taste in people mouths. All she can offer is abortion rights and *maybe* the fact she was VP and has “experience on the job” From trumps bullet ear, bidens withdrawal, and 4 months left for Americans to be educated on who kamala Harris even is, I predict a very solid win for the Republicans and Trump. The writing is just so blatantly on the wall. It’s too late to enter the race for kamala, I don’t think SHE even knows her own policies yet. Trump just offers instant band aid fixes and strong economic policies *for america* and that’s just what they want right now over there, the place is a hell hole literally. Just look at San Fransisco it’s a literal slum. Americans will vote on hope and reality and trump is offering them that right now.
