Second this, Ali really should continue with Holesworthy live. I appreciate that he tries to bring serious topics into this pod. I feel that if he produced videos or perhaps once a month patreon exclusive pod for these topics he would see the amount of the audience that wants to hear it or learn about it.

2023-02-16 10:31:31 +0000 UTCWould love to hear Mislav give us an overview of the GeoPolitcal ramifications of a war in Taiwan. Also Ali, you should have your own podcast (I've watched all the Holesworthy Live stuff) and discus GeoPolitcal and other similar topics, you're one very knowledgeable man.

2023-02-07 20:10:45 +0000 UTCAgreed that this could be a good question. It would be interesting to hear his approach and whether it differs from Varoufakis mentioned above or something like Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond. I'd add to the Varoufakis point that the rise of Europe was also majorly influenced by the black death. Due to such a massive drop in population, this allowed remaining workers to more effectively bargain for higher wages (particularly if they were skilled artisans), which in turn allowed for greater spending and so on.

2023-02-07 10:21:44 +0000 UTCThat’s a good one^ Have you read “talking to my daughter about the economy” by Yiannis Varoufakis? His theory/explanation comes down to the success of agriculture. Successful farming is largely dependent on the climate of where your farming. Europe’s climate was more suitable for large scale farming than say Australia. Agricultural surplus of food in Europe saw a population boom and allowed for countries to feed armies. Food like wheat also became commodities for trading. The success of agricultural surplus snowballed into technological advancements and innovation in military, trade, social and political structures etc Basically he says whoever was the best at farming had a massive “headstart” and that’s why European countries/states eventually colonised Australia, Africa etc not the other way round. Europe was lucky it is where it is geographically as it’s climate was more conducive to farming. Wonder if Dawkins would say something similar

2023-02-07 06:00:05 +0000 UTCCan you ask Dawkins why some cultures evolve technologically faster than others. For example why was there such a difference between the technological advancement of white Europeans and indigenous populations of America/ Australia?
