Ali I know you're a commie bastard™ but if you think venezuela's current predicament is due mostly to global factors then you really are blinded by idealogy. I was living there when things started going bad, and the reason it's fucked is poor economic management. The government expropriated lots of private enterprise in the 2000s, including oil infrastructure. Extreme corruption and poor management has made these businesses inefficient and economically unsustainable. To give an example current oil production is below 1980s levels because the people running the show are Maduro's cousin's hairdresser's sons, not qualified experienced managers. Furthermore, they used the oil income to import lots of food and sell it at a loss due to the price controls they implemented. Local farmers could not compete as their sell prices were fixed below the cost of production so they went out of business and the industry died. Rather than investing in teaching the country to sustain itself, they spent the money on short term populist bs that dried up the instant the money stopped. I know you're mostly talking about Brazil, but corruption is rife in south America, there is no doubt about that, so saying that the corruption charges are bs without explanation is very weak.
