📋 Pricing Update ~ Apple iOS Users Only
Added 2024-08-12 18:22:44 +0000 UTCHi, all! I got a message today about upcoming changes for Patrons using the Apple iOS app.
What do I know?
Apple is requiring that Patreon use iOS in-app purchases for all new purchases made in the iOS app. Beginning in November 2024 new memberships purchased in the iOS app will be subject to Apple’s 30% App Store fee.
As I cannot afford to absorb that price percentage right now given the cost of running the channel, memberships and digital goods sold in the Apple iOS Patreon app will be offset and see an increase in price. This means that Patrons visiting my page on mobile web, PC/desktop, and Android will see a lower price from those visiting in the iOS app.
To avoid the higher price, I would suggest making purchases/joining the Patreon from outside of the iOS Patreon app if possible. On a desktop browser or from your phone's mobile web page.
What else is changing?
Additionally, Apple’s in-app purchase system only supports the subscription billing model. So from November 2024, any new Patreons will move to the subscription model. Meaning instead of billing on the 1st of the month, new Patrons will be billed on the same day of each month that they subscribed.
What does this mean for you?
This will not change for existing Patrons only new Patrons. If you are already a member when November rolls by, your subscription cycle will stay the same: billed on the 1st of the month. However, if you cancel and then join back later, you will be on the new billing model: billed on the day of the month that you joined.
The new iOS app prices will only apply to new Patrons joining from within the Apple iOS app. So if you are not an Apple user or you are an Apple user that does not visit my page from within the app, you will not see a price change at all.
