There is a lot of diversity within TikTok but its algorithm is designed to show you content that is personalized and “For You” so it’s pretty easy to get stuck in an echo chamber. It takes a lot of different factors into account so if you’re not getting content that is relevant to you, it’s likely because you haven’t spent enough time on it or haven't interacted with the app enough for it to know your interests. It’s an impressive algorithm but not perfect. It also takes into account your watch time so if you’re watching something because you’re interested in hearing out a differing opinion, it thinks you like watching videos about that opinion. I can’t help but watch videos where people are talking about “all natural remedies that big bad pharma is keeping from the public” so my algorithm throws that in sometimes even though I work for pharma company and like it. But nooo, obesity and poverty are not the underlying reasons for many health conditions, it totally big pharma trying to hide the benefits of coconut oil.
