I just get irked about it when they force people to pay alimony to someone for the rest of their life. Alimony is just supposed to help people who aren't as employable after a marriage because of the years they didn't work to take care of their homes and children. After 5 years of alimony I don't see why you would need anymore money, as you should have your work and home life sorted out after a marriage by then.
2020-10-18 19:16:07 +0000 UTCIf I have a nice career and my ex-husband is a good father and works parttime or not at all, then I won't have problem paying alimony as he is caring for the children mor than I do. Also, it is good that both parents can provide for the kids equally. I don't understand that sentiment of not wanting to pay alimony, neither when men feel it or when women feel it.
2020-10-16 17:48:41 +0000 UTCI don't think anyone should be paying alimony anymore unless there's a real case of "this person fucked me over so badly during our marriage that I am no longer employable because of their actions" but then it's more like... Suing for damages or whatever. Child support should definitely be paid out by whichever spouse makes more money, to make sure that the kids are equally taken care of no matter which household they're at, but like welfare or disability, it should be commensurate to the salary the other spouse is making. If they eventually start making equal or more than the other spouse, it should halt or switch sides. Equality, baybeeeee.
