Basemental Drugs 7.15.181

As promised, here is a new version of the mod with features centered around Teens. There is definitely some additional stuff I want to add to this, but this has been pretty much all consuming all month. Even though it has been a ridiculous amount of work it has been a lot of fun, and I really hope you appreciate these new features!

Reactions

Settings
The feature formerly known as Parental Reactions is now simply called Reactions. To decide how your Sim wants to react towards friends or family using or abusing certain drugs, make sure your Sim is selected and active, then click on Drugs > Settings > Reactions.

From here you decide whether or not they tolerate Alcohol, Tobacco, Cannabis or Other Drugs. Sims younger than Teens are not included in this, and will by default get sad whenever a close family member is on drugs.

If you want to play in a world where everyone is A-OK with whoever being on drugs, you can also go into the aforementioned Settings, then click Cheats and Disable Drug Reactions.

Be aware that this requires you to restart the game.

Parents Reacting to Teens
If you are familiar with the mod, I am sure you are used to the reactions occurring when a parent of a teen Sim catches them high or wasted. In case you are not, they will yell at them, get mad, the teen will get embarrassed. The parent will eventually get sad and they can talk it out and smooth things over, which will remove their state of embarrassment and sadness.

Previously both parents would react the same way to their teen child on drugs, often simultaneously, which was a bit tiresome to watch. Now it is limited to one parent. This parent can now however talk to their partner about catching their teen on drugs and they will both enter sad-mode.

If they repeatedly catch their teen offspring doing drugs they will forcefully send them to rehab. Just like it has always been.

Note: Tobacco reactions are not as severe as other drug reactions

Teens, Young Adults or Adults Reacting to their Parents
If a parent of a teen Sim is high on drugs around their offspring, the teen may get an uncomfortable moodlet, which opens up an interaction to confront their parent with their actions.

The parent may now choose to lie, or they may choose to fess up. The outcome of these interactions dictates the following mood for both the teen and the parent, as well as relationship gains or losses between the two parties involved.

Elder Parents Reacting to their Young Adult or Adult Children
This works pretty much like the above feature, but the buffs, and choice of words when confronting their offspring is different. The choice of words when choosing to lie or admit guilt is also changed up.

Romantic Love Interests Reacting to Each Other
This works pretty much like the above feature, but the buffs, and choice of words when confronting their offspring is different. The choice of words when choosing to lie or admit guilt is also changed up.

Friends Reacting to Friends
Even though a Sim is set to be not tolerant to a certain drug, they can not react to friends using said drug unless the friend in question is addicted. This will give the Sim a worried buff and open up for interactions to talk to their friend about their apparent drug abuse.

Parenthood Compatibility
If a parent of a teen Sim has recently caught them doing drugs they can choose to discipline them through the Parenthood pie menu. This only applies if you own the Parenthood Game Pack.

Finding Drugs

If a Sim leaves drugs or drug paraphernalia in their house, a family member (that is not tolerant towards the drug in question) may click on the object and select the "What The?!" interaction. Whenever that interaction is selected the item will not be usable unless they decide to keep it for themselves.

If a Sim that is a young adult or older finds the object it will initially make them mad, and will give them the option to interrogate all the members of the household. The way this works is that you click on the household members and select the "Is This Yours?!" interaction.

The family members that gets interrogated may choose to lie or come clean. This works for all family members regardless if they owned the item or not. So, essentially a family member that did not own the item can still choose to lie and say it is theirs to cover for some other family member.

When the finder of the object is either done interrogating everyone or someone they interrogated admitted to owning the object, they will get the option to either destroy or keep the object for themselves.

However, if a teen Sim finds a drug object and the Settings dictate they don't tolerate the drug in question, they get an uncomfortable moodlet and skips right to the phase where they choose to keep it or destroy it.

Stashing Drugs

Sims, from ages teens and up may also stash their drugs or drug paraphernalia in desks or dressers. Each desk or dresser can hold one object. To stash an object, make sure the Sim in question has a relevant object in their inventory, click on a desk or dresser and select "Stash Object". The Sim that stashed the object can also retrieve it by clicking the dresser or desk and select "Retrieve Stash".

Suspicious Parents
If a young adult Sim or older has caught their loved ones doing drugs or found drugs around the house and went through the process of interrogating their household members without getting to the bottom of who owned the object they will get suspicious as to what is going on.

The suspicious Sim may then choose to search for stashed objects in all desks and dressers. The outcome of this interaction depends on a few factors.

If they don't find anything at all or they find an object they are set to tolerate they will only end up embarrassed for violating family members privacy and their suspicion will be removed, which in turn makes them unable to search for more drugs unless they regain their suspicion.

However, if they do find a drug they do not tolerate they will collect the item and it will prompt the aforementioned rounds of interrogation and the whole nine yards.

Cologne and Eyedrops

These items are now readily available in your local convenience store. If you are new to the mod the convenience store can be accessed either by going to the "Travel" tab on your Sims phone or the "Drugs" tab. The former sends the Sim out for an hour or so to purchase stuff, the latter will have it shipped to them by mail the following work day.

If a Sim smokes Tobacco and don't want their household members to find out they can mask the smell by using the B&M Cologne, or brush their teeth. This will temporarily hide the tobacco smell and will prevent parents reacting to teens smoking.

If a Sim however is high on weed, we need to bring out the big guns. The Red Eyes B-Gone eyedrops will deliver on its promise and remove red eyes, while the B&M Cologne or brushing teeth will  remove the smell of cannabis. These must be used in conjunction to be completely safe from getting busted from family members when high on the devils lettuce.

Using the B&M Cologne also has the added side effect of spreading some nice odor around, giving other Sims in close proximity a temporary energetic buff.

Note: The eye drops animation is missing as I am waiting for the animator to finish up on his work on this.

Teens and School

Bad Influences
Teen Sims attending high school now have a very slight chance of coming home from school with drugs handed to them by a friend, or even high on weed. Lets chalk it down to bad influences.

Homework Dealing Skill
Your grade A (and even B) High School students can now start making a profit by copying their homework and sell it to students with a lesser grade.

All they have to do is, besides studying hard and getting their grades up, make sure that they done the homework for that day. Head over to the convenience store and buy some Homework Books. Click on said books and select "Copy Homework", which will give them level 1 of the Homework Dealing Skill.

Now they can walk up to any lesser grade student and select "Sell Homework" when interacting with them. Your crafty Sim will earn some cash, and the buyer will have their homework done for the day.

The way to level up in this new skill is simply by copying homework and selling it. The higher the level the more Simoleons your Sim will get per homework book, and at the max level they will spend a shorter amount of time copying.

Scenarios

The plan is still to implement more scenarios to be put in and out of rotation for each release, but this release has been so much work that I simply did not have time for it, thus I put two "old" ones back into rotation, as several people have asked if they would return.

So, now you have approximately a month to complete the Cannabis Connoisseur and/or Psychedelic Explorer scenarios before they go out of rotation again.

Important Note!

In order for the feature regarding finding and stashing drug objects to work I had to rewrite all the drug objects in the mod and make sure that when they are purchased (or created) the Sim that purchase or creates them gain ownership of the object.

What this means is that drug objects you currently have on your lot will not have assigned ownership to them yet, as they are defaulted to be owned by the entire household.

Whenever you purchase a new drug object from the dealer, dark web or similar your Sim will gain ownership of the object. Same goes for whenever you use the bong, or open up packages of various drugs. The opened objects will then be owned by the Sim that opened them.

Special Thanks

A massive shoutout to Ravasheen for creating the 3D models for the eyedrops and the cologne.

Venue List

To make sure this works you need to download the updated Basemental Drugs venue list provided in this post. I recommend installing this venue list in a separate folder directly in your Mods folder called: Basemental Venue List

Choose one of these 2 installation methods. Not both.

Basemental Drugs Installer (WINDOWS ONLY)

* If you installed from the installer previously, you can delete the old files by launching the file called unins000.exe in your Basemental Drugs folder.

Basemental Drugs Zip (WINDOWS OR MAC)

Love this mod and your hard work! Ever since the EA update, I cant hire a lawyer once arrested. Help?

PoetryNSims

Yes, as long as they aren't in a single person household. It's for stashing it from their household members.

Basemental

Yes. The Basemental Drugs.exe file

Basemental

Is there a window installer for this version? I'm still a noob when it comes to downloading mods

AleNicAda

Can adults stash drugs? I don’t seem to have the option

Jo

If you are talking about the "huge bag" you have installed it incorrectly I assume since that item has been removed a while back. Use the Discord server for support

Basemental

Hi unable to open cocaine bag any suggestion on what I did or am doing wrong

Sugar Bijou

It’s an ignorable error. Won’t cause any issues In your game what so ever

Basemental

Thank you! I love this mod so much

PepperJackChi

What does this mean? Function: bmd_stop_nodes_running_from_jail() Exception I was going to delete the file from my Mod folder and upload it again.

Sassy Mama

I am not sure what you mean with that

Basemental

Any thoughts on updating?

Kwangyeol Baek

Are you following the tutorial correctly?

Basemental

Hi, i love the mod...but my sim can't copy homework. Does it conflict with Education Overhaul ?

Tiffany Edmonds

This mod is conflicting with Private Practice 2.3.0.0.

Yahna Reid

Thank you so much for doing such a great job fleshing out these family interactions- it was the one really BIG thing I feel needed development in the mod. I can't wait to play with this new version!

Sam D.

Not quite yet, unfortunately. Will however be implemented in the next version

Basemental

This is great thanks ! However, is there a way to differentiate if you don’t want a teen using weed vs a parent/loved one

Ps343

Ahh! You did the parent/teen thing and I am SO excited! I screamed when I saw the announcement on Discord :) thank you for your hard work!

Neen

Give it a go. Ben is definitely not a monk though. Btw, I wholeheartedly suggest using the Discord server for support instead of Patreon

Brooke

This is.. a masterpiece. Thank you so much!

Sara Elizabeth

The amount of work and attention to detail you put into this is incredible. You are amazing. Thank you for all you do!

EDNurseDee

There is a free version and the patreon version. "PATREON.zip" is so you know what one you have, the free version says PUBLIC.zip iirc. And, no, you don't have to have the .exe.

Erica Lloyd

Just out of curiosity, what is a Patreon .zip? Also do we have to download the .exe folder?

Sassy Mama

Cheers and welcome, Karoleen. Appreciate that :)

Basemental

awesomeeeeee

Trene Fulton

I'm new here!!! Love your work with the basemental

KarolHime

this is insanely good! I love your work and you bring my game to life times a thousand

Jacqueline

Thank you so much! This all looks amazing!!

Suzanne Fullerton

What it means is that they won't react to other Sims on drugs while they are under the influence themselves as they would not be as focused. It has nothing to do with their drug habits or potential addiction.

Basemental

I love this! Thanks for all the hard work! I could never play without Basemental

Jessica Hill

This looks great. The only thing that looks off to me is this: "Sims on drugs will not be able to spot other Sims on drugs" In my experience, people that use drugs are much better at spotting each other than people that don't.

Baulderstone

You don't have to if you don't want to, but they are all set to reacting negatively to everything by default. If you want to change that you change it on a Sim by Sim basis, or turn it off completely with the cheat.

Basemental

do you have to set reactions for every single sim or??

Lina S.F.

I love this 😁 thank you, I hope one day my crime boss will be able to pour himself a cup of liquor straight out a bottle!

TeeCee149

Yaaaay

Yolanda Burks

Can't wait to play later today! Love this update!

WWM_

Haven’t looked at that mod but the way this is set up I would say there’s a 99% chance it won’t

Basemental

AWESOMEEEEEEE

Trene Fulton

Trene Fulton

Wow! Thanks a-lot man. Do you think this will interfere with the education overhaul mod (adeepindigo) when it comes to the copying homework?

Christine Reynolds

This is absolutely amazing, I can’t wait to play!

gaianangel756

This is everything. Every. Thing.

Kathryn Grace

Launching this now can't wait!!

Vee Jones-Slaughter
