I absolutely love the acting in this series, but this episode showcases the harrowing nature of the setting, sound design, etc. If I had to pick a theme for this series, unexpectedly, I feel it's exposing the humanity of people who make tough, even terrible choices. We all WANT to be the female scientist, most of our narratives frame her as the kind of hero we should aspire to be-- but the more realistic kind of heroes are the Liquidator (the name used for the many people conscripted to clean up the exclusion zone) and the party man. They live in the world in a way that protects themselves and their loved ones, and when they can, when it's feasible, they protect everyone else, too. Thanks for posting! One of the best episodes, perhaps THE best episode is next!
