2023-08-01 04:47:02 +0000 UTCThere's a youtube science course I watched a few episodes of that was so fascinating about radiation's effect on materials-- the way the particles displace the structure and weaken it, etc. Well worth looking up just for the edification of understanding the way it works (meant as a suggestion for anyone reading this!)

2023-08-01 03:01:22 +0000 UTCI heard in another show, pure fiction so take it with a grain of salt, is that radioactive particle are like like a ghost pepper: if you touch it or handle it that'd not good, but soon as you injest or inhale it that's a whole different level of bad. I think you're confusing radiation and radioactive particles. To make an analogy it's the difference between the light emitted by a light bulb versus the light bulb itself. Uranium, plutonium, Polonium cobalt etc are radioactive. Fallout isn't "radiation" falling on you or things, but tiny radioactive particles that emit radiation and continue to do so till as long as it's in your body

This is something to remember Stalin treated the Ukrainians comparably to how Hitler treated the jews, when thinking about current events. It was for different reasoning, but Stalin murdered more Ukrainains than Hitler killed jews. To this day Ukraine is the bread basket of Europe and was back then, but Ukraine had an independent streak. To force submission Stalin seized the Ukrainian food supply and production and in a single year 6-10 million Ukrainians starved to death in what was declared an intentional genocide, even the Russian government has acknowledged that it was genocide. I'm half ukrainian, all 4 of my Mother's grandparents moved here from a little village on the outskirts of Lviv. My mom went to a Ukrainian church growing up and remembers the old people of the church talking about the forced famine.
