I think this film is brilliant! From the acting, cinematography, musical score and the story was perfect. Andy Serkis like always crushes it. I thought it was gutsy that they killed Blue Eyes, they built him up so much in Dawn and the beginning of this one. I love the direction they take with Caeser, to him being so vengeful and lose his hope for humans. He didn't hesitate to kill Nova's dad and he doesn't even try to make a connection with Nova until much later. And seeing him kind of turn into Koba was great because I think anyone could become him and he does eventually admit that he was. He really showed how "human" he was, anyone would want revenge if their wife and child were killed, anyone would be fueled with rage. And when I first saw this I was gutted when he died but I think it is a very fitting ending for his character, he looks so happy and relieved that the apes were finally safe, that his son was safe, even Nova. And it was perfect having his last moments be with Maurice. I do believe he's the leader now, him and Rocket. Rocket did show his leadership when he sacrificed himself, he could have died but luckily didn't. Woodey is so good in this, you can't wait to see him get his comeuppance and I thought it was great that he got the virus and being that it was the doll that caused him to get it was perfect. His big monologue about his son was so good and I do feel for him in that moment because you can really tell that it killed him to do that. And that act is what caused him to become who he was. He was terrifying, mostly because he wasn't a hypocrite, he literally killed his own son and himself. He never waited to see if it could be cured or the fact that the virus wasn't going to kill them, it just made them not as intelligent (even though Nova seemed pretty intelligent to me). I absolutely love the misdirection with the soldier they spared at the beginning. You think he's going to switch sides but he's the one that kills Caeser and I like that the one gorilla did do the right thing at the end and sadly he paid the price but I think he already knew it was going to happen, it kind of was like he was ready for it. I really like the Nova's character, despite her having the virus she shows that humans with the virus can still have their humanity, sure they can't talk but they can still be compassionate. Caeser I think is reminded of this when she mourns for the gorilla that was killed (sorry can't remember his name) and then we she risks being exposed and saving Caesers life, they truly bond in that moment and I love that she pets him, something that hasn't happened to him since he was with Will. And she really did save him, if it wasn't for giving him that food and water who knows what would have happened. And I also like the idea that because she stays with the apes shows that they can co-exist, that she's the bridge between the apes and humans.

Also, I do highly recommend watching the Original franchise: The Planet of the Apes, Beneath the Planet of the Apes, Escape from the Planet of the Apes, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, and Battle for the Planet of the Apes.

By the way, Bad Ape was played by Steve Zahn. He did the motion capture work as well.
