Mary Poppins UNEDITED REACTION (early access)

You should watch 'Saving Mr. Banks' (starring Emma Thomson, Tom Hanks, and Colin Farell, to name a few) next ... it's the story of Author P.L. Travers, and her reflection on her childhood after reluctantly meeting with Walt Disney, who seeks to adapt her Mary Poppins books for the big screen. It's a really good movie, which will make you see the movie ' Mary Poppins ' in a completely different light and make it even more endearing to you.

Iconic movie! Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke are just a joy to watch! I love the sequel, Mary Poppins Returns. Its not as good as the original, but it has the same feel and Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda are fantastic in it! Saving Mr. Banks is also a fantastic movie!

Jenny MacRunnel

Fun fact, the actor playing uncle Albert, is the voice of the mad hatter from Alice in wonderland 😃 Love watching you see all the old movies

This film is just iconic, as a kid though I didn't really like the animation parts, I much preferred everything else, I use to fast forward it, lol but as I've gotten older I appreciate it more. All the songs are so great, the Shermon brothers were masters at song writing, something I didn't know until recently was they wrote It's A Small World and now it's forever in everyone's heads, lol. My favorite song is Feed The Birds, it's so beautiful and Julie's voice is so soothing, it was also Walt Disney's favorite as well. I like they we never explain what Mary Poppins exactly is, is she a witch, an angel? But you don't care cause yes she's always in control and she's clearly there to help the children and their parents, mostly their father but I agree the mother needed to learn to put her children first as well. Julie Andrews was made for this role, this was her first film if you can believe it, she had only done Broadway before this and she ended up winning an Oscar for best actress and well deserved! I love Vick Van Dike in this movie, he's so likable and even though he's living on the streets he's so happy and full of life. And man the guy could move, quite a few years ago he was on stage for something with Disney and he still was moving just like that! I like that there is no romance between them, just two people who truly care and appreciate each other. I have always thought Bert was a child that Mary helped. Some fun facts: Julie Andrews provided the whistling for the birds from A Spoon Full Of Sugar scene. They were going to cut the Stay Awake number but Julie was so adamant about it staying in that she contacted the author who was also the consultant for the film and she got it to stay in. The Step in Time sequence had to be filmed twice because of a scratch on the film from the first take, the entire sequence took a week to film. Walt Disney loved Julie Andrews in Camelot so much that he actually modeled Anita (the human) from 101 Dalmatians from her which came out before Mary Poppins. This is actually Disney's most successful film for the Academy Awards, they won 5 out of 13 nominations, it's never happened again. I much rather you guys react to Saving Mr. Banks more then Mary Poppins Returns! It's such a great film and a really good idea, to have a movie about the making of another movie, lol. It really dives into the author of the book and you can't go wrong with Tom Hanks as Walt Disney!

There is indeed a theory that Mary was Bert's nanny. There are also theories about Bert being Mr.Dawes' son, especially as they are both played by Dick Van Dyke, and uncle Albert being Mr. Dawes' brother and Bert's uncle. Also, Dick Van Dyke's attempt at a Cockney accent is so notorious that a "Dick Van Dyke accent" is an accepted slang term for an American's unsuccessful attempt at any British accent. He's even made fun of it himself. Lastly, P.L. Travers, the author of the book, hated the animated sequence and wanted it removed, but Walt Disney refused. And I recommend the sequel. I know not everyone likes it but I enjoy it.

Oooooh this was great! You guys should watch Mary Poppins Returns (the sequel) and Bedknobs and Broomsticks (another classic movie with a similar feel to Mary Poppins).
